Yes. Into the body of a spoiled girl with the same name.
I don't think anything I say here is a spoiler, because this only occured in the book, but to be safe...
When they investigated HeYan you notice that they mentioned a gate keeper in the show? That was the father of her new body. The girl also had a brother. I kinda miss that they cut that part out, because you see the evolution of the spoiled daughter/sister (that the brother had to live without so that the sister could get everything) into a strong girl that the brother was proud to have. But over all, the production team had a lot to deal with with the original changes in the script to the scandal and the new changes that had to be made. I thought the changes were understandable and didn't take away anything from the base storyline of He Yan and her journey to becoming a general and finding love (that she never expected).
are they trying to show that villains are to be pitied?... after what the evil princess suffered, Jang Li's drugging…
We only saw a snapshot of Wanning's past. No one deserves what she when through, but who said she wasn't evil before that befell her? We don't know. She has two brothers and is willing to kill off one of them for the other to become Emperor. (Granted, Cheng and her are full siblings, but still... neither one of them seem right in the head.)
