Oh yes, MQG is quite arrogant, but this fits perfectly with SYS's character at the beginning who is also arrogant. They both feel special because they have 5 spiritual roots, are strong & smart to outwit each other. MQG feels she is capable enough to save SYS from his fate as a demon child, but she keeps everything to herself, making SYS misunderstand. When MQG sacrifices herself & dies, SYS regrets & his character changes, more humane. From this point, the story becomes more interesting.
Ran2 as the reincarnation of MQG was born with incomplete spiritual roots, weak & must be helped by others, so her character becomes more humble & open. Ran2's character is much better & more likable (than MQG's initial character) and balances out SYS's changed character. If MQG's feelings for SYS and vice versa are more towards obsession, Ran2's feelings for SYS and vice versa are more sincere & mutual love.

if you can see from a different perspective, this is a satisfying ending. the enemy eventually loses even though our heroes die one by one. this is a heroic story about people fighting to defend their country & their loved ones. at least in the last scene (5 seconds) the heroes are shown happily gathering & riding together in the meadow in a different realm.

Weird. Chu Yue is only close to Yu Shisan... the last scene of Ruyi, Ning YuanZhou & his friends riding on the grassland (in the spirit realm) is more connected to Yang Ying than Chu Yue.
