Idk about the crush thing, I think he had quite a bit of feelings for her( remember he was about to propose her in college just before going to germany) he just had to subside them because he thought she didnt like him ( he told his friend that he called and messaged her a lot when he was in germany but she never replied as we know she lost her phone) and eventually came to conclusion that she was ignoring him, so obviously he won't go around to find her whenever he is back in china bcs of his pov.
Andddd when they met again that definitely was the destiny. It brought up all the feeling he has been subsiding for all these years the exact moment he saw her; and we all know what happened after, he just couldn't stop looking at her since then.
