You’re the only person that I think thus far has agreed with my interpretation of the ending. That he never said the words, and now he’s reimagining what he wishes he had said. The voiceover when he’s reading the note has the entry in past tense, meaning he wrote that as a regretful entry after failure to use the opportunity. I am very curious about the fact that it had been torn out, folded up and shoved back into the book, though. I don’t know what to make of that.
Also, why in the world was his diary amongst other books on the shelves within the bookstore? That legitimately makes no sense to me.
Also, what self-respecting teenager brings their diary to school and leaves it sitting out on the desk like that?
I think they just remained friends all that time, and it is the other character arriving to hang, and they’re still just friends. But maybe he is more willing now to be honest about his feelings, given he rewrote just the last two lines of the note, the part wondering if it’s too late to confess.
Love how sassy Ji Hyun became post accident, his sarcastic exchange with the rival Eun Ji are pure gold.
I got concerned after the accident happened, and came over here to try to get a feeling for if things were going to be OK or not, without massively spoiling it for myself. Your comment helped me without giving any more of a spoiler than I was looking for. So thank you :-)
