Yes, she did stab him. But was it really such a stab that could potentially kill him, not at all. It was just a jab to mark the end of the ruse he had started. Instead he at a point HAD arranged for a carriage accident that could have potentially killed her or easily disabled her.
With the LMT hate bandwagon going on for the past few days here, I would like to share my own two cents on her character. While she might not be the perfect female lead of a romantic drama, her character as a woman is definitely worth savoring.
Liu Mian Tang is definitely going down as one of my most favorite female leads of all time. Her character design and actions are actually pretty realistic for a woman who held military power ( though not the usual court approved army) during the era the story is set in .
It's so refreshing to finally see a ruthless, calm,extremely intelligent and capable female lead who handles everything with such grace and poise get her revenge without relying on the male lead.
She seems the go getter , idealistic type of woman who would independently strive towards her goals even if it means risking her own life.
She is grey and proudly so. For her, her pride,dignity and ideals are something she wont compromise for anyone even if it means its her beloved . She might across as stubborn and unlikable to some who don't understand her character for that, but actually this tough attitude towards life extremely essential hold yourself up in business and martial world in an era where the women are hardly granted a place in such fields. She has toughened herself so much that she doesn't need any man to live a worthy life. Even if she's in love, it's an aspect of her life and not her whole existence.
Her rejecting the male lead is such too. While she is grateful and does love him, she is trying to be realistic since their status currently are pretty different and she isn't at all ready to become a part of a lord's harem especially since she doesn't yet know that Cui Xingzhou has made up his mind to make her his only wife.
Can't help but let out a snicker seeing how people in here are going lengths to prove that the FL's actions are unjustified while most of them were seemingly not so bothered by the 'smart','moral' and 'upright' ML's undeniably problematic actions few days back.
No one,I repeat, no one of them is on a moral high ground in this case. Neither of them were against their nation.While CXZ is an official serving whoever at power at the capital to ensure his family's position, LMT was a someone who could be considered the leader of a faction who wanted to lead a rebellion to install a more rightful heir for the betterment of people . While Ziyu is no saint , atleast having him is better than having an empress dowager easily swayed by others and a juvenile emperor who gave orders as a child's play.
LMT has to be grateful alright, which she is . But aren't we forgetting that CXZ's initial plan was to kill her off after using her to find LW. That thought immediately nullifies whatever favour he had done to her. Ultimately she was going to have the same fate- Death,albeit later having lost her dignity after sleepingon the same bed with an unknown man . It was only because our "Oh so benevolent " ML fell in love with her that he gave up on the idea.
So why should she who has always yearned for freedom have no major repercussions when she realized that she was being tied in a fallacious marriage for a whole year. No matter how much he came to be sincere to her latter, no matter how she gradually fell in love while coping with her situation he absolutely deserves whatever she's putting him through if not more.
That one year of ruse initiated by him is no base on which a free minded,independent and capable girl like her should ever base her lifelong relationship on.
