I have a whole lot to write about this topic, but I'll just leave it at my one negative of this drama is the characterization…
We were given bits and pieces of information of her life and experiences that shaped her the way she is now. We know that her family was the one who created the lie about her huadian birthmark and forced her to live a lie, but she also clearly had mutual love with Wei Bao (BoGong). When Wei Bao died, her family immediately changed her marriage partner to Chen Xiang. Although Chen Xiang treated her well, she didn't love him, and we can see she still had feelings for Wei Bao after all these years. Chen Pang disliked her, forcing her to scheme and manipulate in order to protect herself and survive, since she cannot count on her maiden family in this regard. Years of scheming eventually made her ruthless, very different from the girl Wei Bao loved.
In all honesty, they could have given us more, but if you watch closely and pay attention, Su Er Huang's characterisation is there. She is clearly not evil for the sake of having a villain for the leads to overcome. Even her interactions with her younger brother/cousin gave us insight to how the Su family is, and why she clings to every piece of power and authority given to her. I can both sympathise and feel pity for her, but at the same time, I can root for the leads to overcome her.
Oh my god, seriously! After seeing the behind-the-scenes and the fan event, the chemistry between them is next…
Right? You can tell she is very comfortable interacting with him, and he's always there like a safety net just in case she needs help. Helps the he is also very respectful of women. And to think some people say they have zero chemistry together...
I hope they make a change in the official post to remove Liu Yu Ning from the second ML position. It isn't fair to him to be put in the spotlight and made to bear the pressure of promoting this drama together with the ML when his total screentime is barely even that of some supporting casts. He literally has only about 2-3 minutes per episode, and he doesn't even show up in all 24 episodes of Season 1. This drama was filmed about 5 years ago, and during that time, LYN was only given supporting character roles. Now that Prisoner of Beauty shot his popularity up, they want to cash in on it. Not shading the other actors and actresses in this drama, just the production company and the people making advertising decisions.
So ML does turn into a jealous dick over a holiday gift. I'm guessing after he burned the painting and slapped…
Episode 27 is when he finds out about his cousin's infatuation, and in the same episode, the couple works things out so there's zero misunderstandings between them, thank god. It seems in the previews for ep 28 and 29, Su Er Huang and Liu Yan are going to get together and move the plot towards its final arc. Which means we might have potentially 5 episodes of climax development and execution. I honestly wouldn't worry about anything getting in between the couple now. ML also seems to be willing to forgive the cousin, this path seems to be developing closer to the novel.

I am pretty sure they will condense some events and cut the minor sideplots. Grandma's fall might be due to sorrow over Wei Yan's departure, or it could be like the novel and Su Er Huang is behind her poisoning.
I would consider ML to be justified in his anger and punching his cousin for mooning over his wife. He could have overlooked it if Wei Yan kept it under wraps, but his cousin went and painted a portrait of FL and hung it in his room, not even under lock and key. The holiday gift given to FL wasn't out of pure intentions, but yes, I agree with you that it isn't FL's fault. In olden China, his behaviour is a major breach of respect, trust, moral and ethics. ML's condition is for Wei Yan to control his feelings, but since the cousin cannot, it is only right that he leaves.
I doubt the argument will go on for very long, but I am basing my judgment on the way they have handled all the arguments between them up to this point. They might have it worked out before he goes off to battle. Still, I am a little worried that they might end up cramming too much in the last few episodes and mess up the pacing or have the drama end on a weak note. Fingers crossed they will not mess it up.
Don't worry, his 2 other costume drama and 1 modern drama where he is the ML has happy endings
Currently airing: Prisoner of Beauty (historical) Not aired: A Dream Within a Dream (historical), Cicada Girls (modern) Also, his other modern drama that aired in 2023 "Be Your Own Light" also has HE, but he isn't exactly the ML since it's focused on the story of 3 women
Liu Yuning showing off his abs, I'm more positive now for kissing scenes or bed scenesππ
This man knows his fans and knows how to bait. It was only for like one second and people are already going mad because he's been upholding male virtue for so long π π
I thought this would be insanely toxic but their relationship gets better pretty fast. I'd say they are pretty…
Their relationship is actually more toxic and slow burn in the original novel. I am glad the drama changed it this way. It means less time spent on unnecessary misunderstandings and cold wars. There will probably still be major arguments that are kept the same, but I'll give it a pass for plot and relationship development.
Can someone pls clarify, why does FL address ML as "lord" not husband? Or is it a translation error?
FL called him η·ε which is a respectful way noble women call their husband during that dynasty/period. ML in turn also calls her ε₯³ε, a respectful way to call one's wife. In simpler terms, it can be translated to "lord husband" and "lady wife", which is all proper and formal. When they are more comfortable with each other, they can then choose to call each other by name or nickname.
Bec of actress' scandal we have to wait for forever, I hope she will give right of her role or I will really be…
It's not her fault someone accused her of tax evasion. She is an innocent caught in a false scandal. Either way, we've waited for so long that waiting a bit longer isn't an issue.
I'm so glad Song Zu Er is back. Its so sad when artists get banned. I wish others could be back too. I miss Deng…
Unfortunate as it is, the only reason Song Zu'er is able to make a comeback is because she was found innocent of all charges and accusations. Deng Lun, on the other hand, was guilty so he has been blacklisted from the industry.
LYN's character better be alive at the end or else this will be my last drama I'll watch with him lol
LYN promised that he will survive in his 3 unaired dramas, and Li Yi Tong did say this drama is a more light-hearted one that will be happy from the start to the end. I'll trust him this once XD
What's with the english title?! Lmao Either way, it'll most likely be a totally different cast and probably different countries too. There was the mentioned Liang Country with their own spy agency too in AJTL that could keep the story fresh. It'll be in a shared universe, after all.
The ending is perfect, in my opinion, and very much in line with Yan ZiJing's character, as well as Liu Yu Ning's interpretation of him. In a previous interview, LYN said that YZJ will not want to die in front of the people he loves, making them suffer emotionally as they watch him slowly die from the poison. So, like some pets do, he decided to leave home to die alone. While some may take this as an OE, I would say it's bittersweet. It is heavily implied that there's no cure for YZJ, and so he presumably dies not long after he leaves DW and co.
does anyone know anything about his sea god role in Douluo Continent 2? Is it just a cameo, or...?
I am not sure how many scenes he will have, but it will probably be a lot lesser than his appearance in "Wonderland of Love". Especially if they are going to follow the animation closely, then the Sea God Domain/Island should be near the end, which will lead into Part 3 (if they even get to filming it). But if I am wrong and they try to cram the entire Sea God arc, then LYN should have more than just a cameo. But doubt it since he said his part this time is really small
