Why is it that in so many J-dramas, the female protagonist becomes unsure of her feelings at a crucial point, and ends up ruining the relationship by getting close to someone else—often to the extent of sleeping with another character? It’s frustrating to see all that trust and emotional development between the main leads fall apart like that.
It’s not about needing perfect characters, but this recurring trope—where the female lead can’t recognize her true feelings without another man pushing her toward it—feels disheartening. She’s often portrayed as unable to stay emotionally grounded, and that really weakens the impact of the story. Even if the ending tries to piece things back together with a rushed reconciliation, it doesn’t feel earned.
Honestly, I was about to rate this drama a 9/10 because of the strong story and an excellent male lead. But after this turn of events, I can only give it a 5/10. It’s a shame, because dramas like this have such potential but often get held back by overly complicated or self-sabotaging writing choices.
