It’s my favorite historical drama that I’ve watched so far (although, I’m not an expert). There’s some lying initially because ML is trying to catch a bandit leader and FL was his favorite concubine, allegedly (FL lost 2-3 years of memory due to being deathly wounded; amnesias don’t last long in drama thou 😉). It starts light & peaceful but scope of events becomes bigger and bigger as the drama progresses (from catching a local bandit we go to military missions to political machinations to empire wide events). So it’s not like Flourished Peony where most of the focus was on business. And FL in AYtO is as skilled in martial arts as she is skilled in business 🥰

It’s weird when already-shot kissing scenes get cut. It cannot be censorship because When Destiny Brings the Demon had a lot of kissing and “dual cultivation” scenes.

I have to seek solace in re-watching “Are You the One” when I get tired of tropes, cliches or illogical decision-making 😳🥺🙄

I have to imagine most of the times stars don’t have full scripts in front of them when they sign up for a drama because so many dramas either drag in the middle (esp. modern dramas made artificially longer by tropes like misunderstanding/breakup) or have very questionable endings 🤷😳🙄

I second “When Destiny Brings the Demon” recommendation — many people feel like it has LBFAD vibes and, like another person said, the intimate scenes are on another level (all the censors were asleep). My other recommendation is “Are You the One”. It’s a historical drama (not fantasy), but it has very strong “these people were made for each other” vibes just like the couple in this drama (some deception is also involved for a bit).

Not all dramas with high ratings can be liked by everyone, so don’t worry if you don’t like it. I found it very enjoyable — it starts off a bit on the funny side but definitely becomes more serious as leads developer deeper affection for each other and have to keep fighting bad people. Ratings improved quite a bit as the drama aired, so later episodes may be more interesting. This is one of the dramas where writers didn’t take a vacation after first 10-15 episodes and actually continued to improve :)

That’s probably about as 18+ as we will get on a regular C-drama platform. If you want to see a modern drama like that, the closest is probably “Step by Step Love” (2024).

It’s better than people expected it to be. It’s from the same author as more well-known Moonlit Reunion and aired at the same time (different genres though), but still ended up doing well. Very nice and friendly comments section too — we were all rooting for our leads 🥰❤️‍🔥🔥

It makes most other dramas look very puritanical by comparison. How many dramas have one of the characters complaining there was too much, ahem, “dual cultivation” in one night? 😳🫣🤣

I like to joke that the couple from WDBTD wrote that dual cultivation manual that FL in this drama was reading ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

When Destiny Brings the Demon (was release just before LTIC). The leads have insane chemistry and it has so many intimate scenes it makes you wonder if censors forgot to review/edit the drama, lol. The FL isn’t strong from the very beginning but she improves as the drama goes along (it has vibes of Love Between Fairy and Devil but slightly
less angsty).

YOUKU used up their annual allotment of kissing scenes on When Destiny Brings the Demon 🤣🫣❤️‍🔥

Only people at Transcendental Stage can have a physical Spirit Well. Only he and people with his heart imprint (like FL) can enter it unless he brings them in himself.

Ah, got it, thank you for clarification. Then its definitely on the writers. They should have made it so it’s clear why our heroes couldn’t kill/imprison SL/his dad/whomever else BEFORE the tournament. But, all things considered, this isn’t a huge deal compared to leaps of logic / illogical / unexplainable things many other dramas are guilty of.

C-drama (and K-drama) writers need to realize people usually want good satisfying endings (unless, obviously, it’s based on real-world events).
This ending was very good; for modern C-dramas The First Frost is probably the ending that should be imitated/learned from.
P.S. I’m happy that Lady Fox survived here :)
