Have you watched “Love Between Fairy and Devil” and “Love Game in Eastern Fantasy”? WDBTD is similar in…
I think you will like Love Game in Eastern Fantasy. It’s a bit lighter in tone than LBFAD, has great special effects and is like this drama in plot (modern girl gets transported into a novel and tries to be good while playing a bad character). And I looked at your list — happy to see you liked Are You the One 🥰
It’s based on a very, very long novel (well, TWO novels). This season covers beginning of first novel. There’s also an ongoing donghua (animated version) which is made by the same studio as live action drama. That donghua releases episodes once a week and it’s ahead of live action but still covered maybe 1/5 of the combined novels. Manhua is not finished, I think, but I could be wrong. At some point it stopped being translated into English though.
Occasionally I’ll listen to the OST on YT (thanks @Peachey Blossom!) and and come here to lament that it’s…
Have you tried Shazam or SoundHound to identify a song? That’s how I usually find Chinese songs on Spotify (but it doesn’t work all the time as some songs are only in YT).
Kind of a bummer this drama ended up only with an overall 8.4 rating. I thought the overall story was pretty unique…
MDL ratings can be strange sometimes, so 8.4 is pretty good. The most important thing is whether the drama made enough money for its financial backers. Finance people don’t care about MDL ratings — they need to see a profit before agreeing to do more seasons.
The reason is very simple and has nothing to do with creators — it’s due to government censorship. Government…
Yes, hopefully the ban will be lifted eventually, but a this point we just have to accept it and don’t get too upset at drama writers. Honestly, I’m still super impressed The Princess Royal somehow managed to get past censorship review (supposedly, there were some hints it’s a dream/not real but I don’t remember them).
FL was in an accident and woke up with a concussion so she probably didn’t have time to change her clothes.…
Meeting in the stairs is the callback to when they met originally ;) Also, if you haven’t seen it, this is the bonus Weibo content I mentioned — https://m.weibo.cn/status/5208618148561819

China’s birth rate is declining, I believe, so you’d think the government would be encouraging to have more romantic scenes in dramas 😉 I remember one drama which had a pregnancy scare even though they never showed the couple getting intimate 😳
In the earlier episodes when Sima Jiao was at death's door, Ting Yan touched foreheads with him and was hugging…
This process is supposed to be even more intimate than sex (per genre experts). In this drama I think we all decided to agree that the lead couple had sex as part of their, ahem, “bonding” activities 😉🫣
Withdrawal from this drama is brutal, to make it worse, there is nothing good enough to watch currently.
Have you watched Love Game in Eastern Fantasy and Moonlight? You can almost think of it as related dramas because 3 of 4 leads from Moonlight (modern drama) later starred in fantasy LGIEF (FL, ML, 2ML). And if we try really hard, we could conceivably imagine them being in a shared universe, lol
This drama changed my perspective of xianxia (which I honestly recently discovered is the name for these types…
Have you watched “Love Between Fairy and Devil” and “Love Game in Eastern Fantasy”? WDBTD is similar in vibes to LBFAD. And LGIEF is nice because if you like the lead couple, you can watch them in the earlier modern drama Moonlight (3 of 4 leads from Moonlight are in LGIEF).
Viki ratings are always absurd but now MDL ratings are too
Agree about Viki and MDL ratings, but for this drama they are quite fair. Most people really enjoy it and compare the vibes to LBFAD. But everyone likes different things — there’s no obligation to like highly rated dramas :)
Was looking for a comment like this cause I couldn't even completed one episode one big reason is female role…
The FL character is specifically written to be a “salted fish” which is a Chinese term for people who are burned out from work/stress and now want to take it easy & go with the flow (it’s a real trend for young people in China and other countries). And her lack of ambition is one of the reasons ML doesn’t kill her — FL is like the only person in that world who does NOT want anything from ML (or tries to kill him). By the end, of course, FL makes a lot of progress and has many responsibilities (don’t want to spoil anything).
i dont like the ending. They could have done so much better
Blame government censorship — they don’t allow reincarnation & things like that because some people take it seriously and hurt themselves (💀🪦). So the government wants shows to make it seem like everything is not real (takes place in a novel, in a dream, etc.). So that’s why in this drama they didn’t come out and say the end was a 4th lifetime together and everything was real. There were a lot of hints (and they kind of confirmed it in Weibo), but they had to give themselves some wiggle room with censors.
is this a good show ? i really loved the actress in twelve letters i wanna check out more of her shows
This is very worth it. It’s has a vibe of LBFAD but slightly less… stressful (not sure of the best way to put it). And this drama probably set the record for most kisses this year (or this decade?).
I took a 1.5 week pause of this drama and I was just 2 eps shy of completing this drama. I just finished it, and…
