A classic!
I just finished this drama and have to rave on it for a minute.First, this is unlike any other dramas out there. This one portrays the life of real people at the end of the Song Dynasty as seen through the eyes of Zhang Zeduan - the famous painter of the scroll 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival.'
The drama centers around the Zhao family imaginatively lifted from the scroll and brought to life. It follows their everyday lives, their hardships, and their love for each other. At the same time there is mystery and intrigue as we learn more about the characters backstories.
The actors cast are real people, not these perfect, beautiful people cast in most cdramas. They have flaws, beer bellies, drinking problems, and money woes just like normal people.
There is also romance - not this flashy, fake, too quick romance you see in most cdramas, but the real romance of a married couple who genuinely are tender and compassionate towards each other.
The acting is top notch. I can't compliment Zhang Songwen and Zhou Yiwei enough for their incredible portrayals of their roles.
I also loved how at the end of each episode they depicted a little short about everyday things in the Song Dynasty. It was entertaining and enlightening.
I think this heartwarming drama will become a classic. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't recommend it highly enough!

Good example of how one lie snowballs
I don't get all the bad reviews. I really liked this drama. The FL was in a bad emotional and financial situation that would force anyone to make a bad decision. The plot was good - except maybe the antagonists were too evil.
I imagine we've all experienced bad breakups, and know how that brings out the very worst in your ex. So even though he was the one who did her wrong, he ended up feeling wronged when she was able to move on.
I loved the 2nd couple in this - wish they had a kiss, but their relationship was very satisfying.
And everything wrapped up nicely with a great happy ending.
I enjoyed it .

Park Su Bong - the Queen of the show
Sorry but while the premise was good, the story just didn't pull it off.The plot had major holes, the romance was too rushed, then petered out. No chemistry - dare I say BORING?! The Dad was horrible. The FL was a limp noodle. ML was eye candy, but even that wasn't enough to save this show. The only thing worth watching was Park Su Bong! Loved how he tried to hold men's hands, and threw screaming fits! At least HE was entertaining.

Worth the watch
I'm a big fan of bromances and Chinese costume period dramas. This was the best of both worlds for me.
I have to say the chemistry and acting of the two male leads was phenomenal. Add to that, stellar looks, fantastic fighting scenes, great sets, hair, and costumes, and good acting from all the other actors - this checked all my boxes!
I agree, very Untamed vibes with the ending.
I would love to see a part 2.
Loved the reverse harem in this - and the actress who played the villainess while a bit over the top, was VERY entertaining!
This is definitely worth the watch. Although it's 24 very short episodes, the writers did a great job - there were no plot holes and the story built and grew as the drama unfolded.
Will watch again! And would love to see these two actors in other dramas!
