after watching ep 9 uhm i don’t see the “equal billing” at all. i think cdl and jz are more likely the second…
For me, cdl and jz cp clearly have the stronger script and more better written dialogues compared to jjy and tjr. Their first wedding meeting and the buildup leading to it feel much more thoughtfully written and emotionally engaging. For jiling and luwuyi there is little to no narrative buildup; they are inexplicably in love from the very first episode, leaving the audience to simply accept it. That said, I’m just starting episode 8, so I’ll see how things develop from here.
Ji Ling & Wu Yi story involve things happen in the past that viewers hasn't got to see, it has more ground…
I like their chemistry as well. Their are so sweet but there is little to no narrative buildup; they are inexplicably in love from the very first episode, it's like we're missing something which is a writing flaw and the actors have nothing to work with. The older couple have much stronger script and it terms of writing. But it's only 7 episodes so we will probably see more and the writings will pick up eventually. So far I'm enjoying both even though i hope the writings of the younger couple will get better.
I’ve finished the first seven episodes, and here are my thoughts so far (no hate, just my opinion, and it’s perfectly fine if you disagree). There’s quite a lot I enjoyed, along with a few criticisms:
Characters: The characters are individually well-written and genuinely engaging. At the moment, WWY stands out as the most intriguing to me.
Costumes & Cinematography: Absolutely stunning. The visual quality is impressive, and I’m especially obsessed with the girls’ costumes, they’re beautifully designed.
Couples: Both couples have strong chemistry and are very captivating to watch, even though their dynamics are quite different.
Plot: Easily the highlight of the drama. The plot twists are intense, definitely something you need to pay close attention to, or you might miss key details.
Acting: Overall, the performances of all the actors are solid across the board. Jiling/the Dragon Deity acting is my favorite so far, alongside maybe WWY, though I admit I might be a bit biased since she’s my favorite character.
Negatives: I don’t have many, but the second couple (Jiling and Lu Wuyi) feels poorly written. Despite their great chemistry, their dialogue comes off as weak, and there’s little to no buildup to their relationship. It feels rushed, though I’m hoping it improves. Also, Lijie’s actor's acting doesn’t quite match the level of the others, it stands out in comparison, but he has enough screen presence that I can overlook it.
Overall, I’d still give it a 10/10 based on the plot twists alone. Since I’ve only watched seven episodes, I’m hopeful that the writing and script for Jiling and Lu Wuyi will improve as the story progresses.
GJM is known to play favorites so don’t be surprised if they’re pushed into the background
I would say Wwy and SG as a couple does have a better script. The progression from the initial buildup to their iconic first wedding meeting is thoughtfully executed and emotionally satisfying, also their dialogues are better written. In contrast, while the second couple undeniably shares strong chemistry, their storyline feels underdeveloped. The dialogue comes across as rather juvenile, and there is little to no narrative buildup; they are inexplicably in love from the very first episode, leaving the audience to simply accept it. It feels like a missed opportunity, as their potential is undermined by weak writing, something my younger self might have overlooked, but now finds disappointingly shallow. Good thing the storyline is character driven and plot is intriguing so we don't need necessarily need cp to watch it and enjoy it.
