I think the makeup is actually part of the character's composition, and here we're shown a cold and calculating PHS. On the other hand, others have already mentioned several dramas where he didn't play the romantic comedy goofball ML. I'd add 'Our Blooming Youth' to that list, where he has many dramatic scenes and doesn't show a single hint of his aegyo. There's a particular scene in EP 11 where he has a heated argument with his father, and Hyungsik's acting skills truly shine in that moment.

It couldn't be better said. Hyungsik is more than just an aegyo king. He knows how to work his voice and facial expressions to convey all kinds of emotions. The truth is, he's been waiting for a role like this for years. He's mentioned that he'd like to dive into more melodramatic or action-packed roles. I always thought it was a shame that he wasn't cast in the series 'Moving' (which, by the way, he's said he really enjoyed watching).
