I appreciated how they portrayed the emotional moments between the main character and the side characters. I understood the characters' motivations and what the director was aiming to achieve. However, the repetition of certain scenes—over and over again—became tiresome and greatly diminished their impact.

Some scenes felt unnecessary and nonsensical, which detracted from the overall experience. The ending, in particular, was terrible and utterly meaningless, leaving me completely disengaged from their so-called “games.” It leaned heavily on an anime-style approach that felt out of place and disconnected from the story’s earlier tone.

While some might argue this reflects a modern style of storytelling, to someone familiar with traditional, modern, and contemporary dramas, it came across as poor writing. It felt like a cheap stunt, aimed at creating artificial mystery and anticipation—not for artistic depth, but purely as a marketing strategy to generate curiosity and set up a “next season.”

If I were to rate this, I would give it a solid 8 for episodes 1-30, 7.5 for episodes 31-32, 7 for episodes 33-36, 6-6.5 at best for episodes 37-39, and a 6 for episode 40. Based on my observations, not just the storytelling but the overall quality has clearly declined as the series progressed after episode 30. There wasn't even much fight scenes at all towards the end, and choreography became much more simpler.

For the record, I genuinely enjoyed the show, especially because it feels modern and refreshing compared to the old-school, often boring Chinese series. The comedic elements and the characters’ performances were enjoyable. However, I don’t think the series deserves the overwhelming level of praise it’s been receiving. What I find particularly hard to understand is how immature many of the younger viewers are. They seem incapable of handling constructive criticism or differing opinions. When someone disagrees with them even slightly, they take it personally, resorting to hate, harassment, and toxic behavior. It’s a glaring issue of the 21st century—a digital era where keyboard warriors thrive and toxic culture dominates online spaces.

Just a heads up. You will start to get disappoted after epsidoe 30, particulary the last few epsiode and how they end it with the poor direction, disorganized storytelling, rushed pacing, and unnecessary repetition.

The last ten episodes felt lackluster and rushed, as if the pacing was halved with each passing episode and artificially stretched using slow-motion scenes and repeated segments to emphasize the same points in the plot. This repetition added little value and seemed like a blatant attempt to pad out the runtime. The overemphasis on the old men, repeated again and again, felt unnecessary and added nothing new to the story, seemingly included only to evoke an emotional reaction from the audience.

The final four episodes, in particular, were a complete disaster. The government/king’s actions and decisions, along with those of his followers, were illogical and lacked coherence—except for the moments where the MC stepped in to tie everything up. The storytelling and direction in these episodes were significantly worse compared to the earlier parts of the series. Frankly, they should take the time to remake these final episodes rather than rushing straight into a second season.

My expectations and anticipation for Season 2 have plummeted as a result. I have completely lost interest in this series.

Given this decline, I believe the glowing remarks and high ratings for this series are overrated. It once deserved at least an 8, thanks to solid storytelling, pleasant directing, great acting, and impressive visual effects. However, with the poor direction, disorganized storytelling, rushed pacing, and unnecessary repetition towards the end, I think a rating of 6.5 would be more fair.
