My new favorite modern adult romance!

It exceeded all my expectations—easily becoming one of my top 3 Chinese dramas of all time!

1. My Favorite Adult Romance Trope

The “he fell first, and fell harder” trope is one of my all-time favorites, and You Are My Secret does it beautifully. Ji Yuheng has loved Xiaoning since high school but kept his feelings hidden. When they reconnect as adults, and she’s single, he doesn’t hesitate to pursue her without the typical push-and-pull drama. Their story is heartfelt and real, and I couldn’t get enough of it.

2. Perfect Screen Time Balance for the Main Couple
Although there are three couples in the story, Yiheng and Xiaoning absolutely steal the show. Their love story progresses slowly but steadily, and it feels so rewarding. We get just the right amount of moments to see how much Yiheng loves Xiaoning, and how Xiaoning gradually returns his feelings.
The second couple, with their "enemies to lovers" dynamic, is also incredibly satisfying. This is the first time I didn’t skip over the side couple’s scenes in a Chinese drama, and I’m so glad I didn’t! The third couple adds a sweet "second-chance romance" layer to the story.

3. Office Romance Done Right

While office romance is a fairly common trope, it never fails to capture my attention—especially when it's done well. In this drama, the main couple isn’t caught up in childish “hide and seek” office drama. Instead, we see how they handle their professional lives as boss and employee, supporting each other and growing together. It’s a mature, realistic portrayal of love in the workplace, and I loved every moment of it.

4. The Harmonious Asian Family Trope

It’s refreshing to see a drama that flips the typical “headache and annoying Asian family” trope on its head. You Are My Secret offers a comforting portrayal of supportive families. Xiaoning’s parents are more like her best friends—laid-back, understanding, and always in her corner. While Yiheng does face some family challenges, the way the story resolves them is so satisfying and beautifully done.

5. Fresh Perspective on the Loan Department Job Trope
I’ve seen the whole “bank loan department” trope before, especially in You Are My Lover, Friend, but this drama brings a fresh perspective. The work aspect isn’t too heavy or overwhelming, and I was still able to understand the characters’ roles and challenges. It’s a nice balance between realism and entertainment.

6. A Beautiful 32 Episodes

You Are My Secret offers a smooth, 32-episode journey with no unnecessary drama or misunderstandings. The main couple resolves any issues quickly with great communication, and I love how they manage to separate their work life from their romantic one. It’s not easy to act professionally while living together and being colleagues, but they pull it off beautifully. I’ll definitely be rewatching this comfort drama. It’s a solid 10/10!

The Best Thing: A Truly Remarkable Show

The Best Thing has undoubtedly been one of the highlights of my year.
1. A Unique Trope with Traditional Medicine

One of the standout features of this drama is its refreshing approach, using traditional Chinese medicine as a central theme. The female lead (FL), who suffers from insomnia, is cured by the male lead (ML), a traditional Chinese doctor. Each episode introduces a new herb, its relevance to the storyline, and its medicinal use. It’s such a clever and engaging concept, and I absolutely love it!
2. Stunning Cinematography and Seasonal Imagery

The camera work and cinematography are truly breathtaking, beautifully capturing the four seasons. From the first time our couple meets during a vibrant spring, the series visually takes us on a journey through each season, enhancing the emotional depth of their relationship.
3. Perfect Screen-Time Balance

One of the reasons I fell in love with this drama is the perfect balance of screen-time. The story remains entirely focused on the main couple, delving into their healing journeys, their relationship with each other, their emotional traumas, and their careers. The side characters are well-developed, but never overshadow the main storyline. It’s a beautiful balance that keeps you invested in the core narrative.
4. Beautiful, Serene Scenery

The settings in this drama are absolutely stunning. Unlike typical dramas set in bustling cities with towering buildings, this one offers a refreshing escape. The viewers are treated to scenes of serene mountains, lush gardens, colorful flowers, and peaceful, warm neighborhoods. It’s a visual feast for the eyes and an incredibly soothing atmosphere.
5. Outstanding Cast and Chemistry

The entire cast is exceptional, from the leads to the supporting characters. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, and their acting, gestures, and voice tones are all perfectly in sync. There are no irritating side characters, aside from Xifan’s ex, of course—though he’s essential to the storyline, so we can't complain too much! The parents, colleagues, friends, and neighbors all contribute to making the world of this drama feel vibrant and alive.
6. The Heartwarming Love Story

At the center of it all are our lovely couple, He Suye and Shen Xifan. Their story is both heartwarming and deeply emotional.
7. He Suye

At first, He Suye may appear to be the perfect man without flaws, but as the story unfolds, we see that he too carries his own pain and trauma. He’s a man who once kept everything bottled up inside, but with Xifan by his side, he begins to heal and open up.
8. Shen Xifan

Shen Xifan is a strong and independent woman who has been deeply hurt by a past relationship. She was gaslighted, felt undeserving of love, and lost her confidence. But with He Suye, she finds healing, regains her strength, and blossoms into the cheerful, confident woman she was always meant to be.
9. A Beautiful Love Story

He Suye and Shen Xifan share one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever witnessed. Their relationship is touching, and I often found myself saying, "May this kind of love find me soon." It’s the kind of love that feels real, healing, and enduring.
