Pace yourself for fudge sake
I love this drama a lot, many will slap me for this.....but I have to say that I prefer Veil of Shadow over Pursuit of Jade, tho' to be fair both kinda different genre of fantasy. The biggest problem with VoS was with the pacing, probably due constraint of 29 episodes so they had to jammed packed everything making it neck-breaking pace, and never actually to fleshed out everything. They had solid plot but they tried to brought everything in 29 episodes that gave viewers whiplash.....so understandably some might see it as bad story and hard to understand. Some viewers might not enjoying skip everything no need to breath fast pace story.Ending wise, I like it better than that pit of despair FoF or whatever that was MJtY. Inline with GJM brand bittersweet open ending, but very hopeful.
The music.....kinda meh and annoying but not like killing the whole story.
I have no complain about beautiful cinematography or beautiful actors and actresses that all over the place.

Good actings but....
If you want barely exist romance, with great acting actors and actresses, promising premise but end up in whimpers, lackluster directing and no effort in costume department......stuffs full educational law in China but questionable logic of script writing, you come to the right drama.I first came for Dilraba, ended up sticking till the end because this for me actually proof that Reba should take more serious and modern drama roles. And Han Dong gave great acting despite whoever write his character should be given a hard slap in the face 🤦🏽
Despite bad writing & directing, this drama is the first drama of Reba's that I don't mind to rewatch..

Do not expect groundbreaking
I've watched both versions, 2014 & 2024....and like most highschool Thai bl drama, the acting kinda shaky and the chemistry definitely meh. But, to be fair these dramas probably their first step into acting so....do not expect more. Both good enough in capturing the awkwardness of highschool especially when it comes about romance and hormones.
It's hard for me to say this, I like 2024 version slightly better....there's no dragging about the whole Jeed's arc. And I like how 2024 flesh in more of Aim, she's not just the 2D uppity Phun's girlfriend.
All's in it's quite ok for light drama watching.

Unfortunate time to release
Love Beyond the Grave released at unfortunate time....right after Pursuit of Jade, but along side with Veil of Shadow despite to be fair different categories. The most unfortunately part PoJ and VoS has 2 things that lacked in LBtG, better writing of plot & characters. Tho' LBtG bring better war & fight scenes compare PoJ, more realistic....I won't bother to compare with VoS fight scenes because that different level fight cinematography. The biggest problem with LBtG was the writing, it made the story plot feels choppy and lacked characters development. The acting great, each everyone did awesome.....especially Miles Wei, I was worried about Arthur's stiff acting, but he actually did okay. At least now we know for sure that Reba's great in fantasy drama as bad@ss. The music is very.....jarring, sometimes not quite fitting. Was this review helpful to you?
