Sang Yan in Hidden Love is more on the comedy side, while Sang Yan in The First Frost is more melancholic.

'The First Frost' is a S+ level drama (high budget drama), they usually need an A-list actor for a show like that. bai jingting is already an A-list actor. if i'm not mistaken, HL is categorized as an A level drama, and both zhao lusi and chen zheyuan are still considered B-list actors.

This tier is usually dominated by historical-themed dramas. Maybe the production team saw how popular HL was both in China and internationally, and knowing that TFF novel was even more popular.

The First Frost is not a second season of hidden love, it focus on Sang Yan and Wen Yi fan.

Why they did change? I already explain at first sentence and this is not a season 2 so that's why they change a cast.
