There’s no reason not to like Boyfriend On Demand, unless you don’t enjoy romantic comedies or you’re a hater of the idol starring in the drama. I’ll start my review this way because I watched all 10 episodes admiring and devouring every scene, every plot, every story. First of all, a drama centered on a female protagonist will always be a positive point for me. Second: the chemistry between all the characters is fantastic. The comedy is the highlight—I can’t even count how many times I laughed during the episodes. I don’t know if I laughed more or if Mirae kissed more. And it’s so fun to watch the main couple’s relationship being built. There’s no such thing as “shipping the wrong couple” here. It’s very clear that the virtual boyfriends bring the clichés and scripted lines meant to please you, but at the same time they’re empty characters who don’t allow you to experience a real romance. What Mirae and Kyeongnam have is genuine and beautiful. I cried, laughed, and delighted in every frame. I’m surprised that a Netflix drama doesn’t have a filler episode or a story added just to stretch the runtime. Boyfriend On Demand is definitely the biggest win of the year when it comes to romantic comedies overall.
The screenplay is fast pacing but some are saying it's boring I guess most people are used to watching reels nowadays…
Yes, I saw those comments. It's sad, but the reality is that if a series doesn't have constant stimuli in the first 5 minutes, they give up because they're driven by anxiety.
Episode 01, the director creates a great introductory narrative, but it may not captivate people nowadays who are addicted to quick and constant stimuli. No, you won't have a zombie decapitating someone's head in the first scene here. First, you'll sit your butt in the chair and learn and understand where we are and who we will follow in this story. In Episode 02, the story develops and leads to the chaos that zombie fans will enjoy. I am not a fan of zombie stories, but in Newtopia, these two episodes sparked my curiosity to learn more about the characters. At the same time, it made me understand that the zombie apocalypse is just another problem among many that we have in society. The humor carries the drama; I loved all the jokes and comic reliefs. But there are also serious scenes that the series introduces very well. Jisoo and Jeongmin deliver excellent performances. Fan and hater can fight here, it won't change the fact that reviews from specialized critics are good. :)
