I haven't finished it, and from what I have read about the ending I'm not sure I will. We will see. I am guessing Pei and Grand Princess, A Yuan and Liu Chang are the real ancestors. When the family first meets these four there is an air of familiarity.
This does not happen with me often. Many times they will turn the second lead into a bad guy of some sort to justify the female lead choosing the rude, cold-hearted, sometimes violent male lead. There has been one time I liked the 2nd lead better and you can see it in my avatar. Blossoms in Adversity is my C-drama pick.

Hearing about the plot with the mother makes me hesitant to continue and I really liked the drama. I don't understand why they needed to revisit this story after we had moved on from the events surrounding the mother's death. Just let her be ill. There is enough going on without this added layer.
Great news! Every now and then you watch a drama and nothing else entertains you. The first one is good. I recommend "The Long River", "Foresighted Lui Bo Wen (2015)", and "New Life Begins".
