I would like to read a bit more before answering that question tbh because most of the plot hasn't even started yet it feels like the introduction phase for now especially because I'm continuously comparing it to the drama it feels even more confusing but it's quite nice still I would recommend giving it a try yourself to see if you enjoy it!

a few chapters into the novel and forget about the plot, half of the characters from the novel doesn't even exist in the drama and I'm assuming they won't because I've barely read 10% of the novel so if those characters were to appear in the drama they'd already have in the beginning...not complaining tho I really love the drama to the point I'm obsessed with it but it's REALLY different from the novel

I mean it would make sense for him to figure out like since the first accusation, when everyone was like ming yi was ming xian crossdressed he only thought she is 'related' to ming xian which just doesn't make sense like he has to be in denial to think that way when even the stupidest characters thought about her crossdressing and jbz isn't stupid if he hasn't after everything then that's a plothole imo and if he hasn't that just means he's in denial and doesn't want to believe that ming yi is ming xian

tbf the whole thing is so different, at one point I even wondered if I was reading the wrong novel so it's basically surprises either way :(

i believe he sided with the hanfeng to 'protect' the princess in his own way because it's pretty clear he knows that yan xiao has feelings for the princess and he can just use her just like he used his cousin
