yeah..i wish the cover was different, it makes people think its centered on both these actors, but only iu stays…
Tbf the main cover of this drama was only meant for the Volume 1. But since it's the first poster that came out, it became like the main poster. Volume 1 and Volume 2 posters has IU and Bogum in it while Volume 3 and 4 posters has Park Haejoon and Moon Sori.
Hong Kyung Ja, one of the hanyeos played by Baek Jiwon is the ONLY character that was inspired by real person.
Hong Kyung Ja was the first ever female chief in Jeju. The writer gave her name to one of the hanyeos (played by Baek Ji Won) and her story being the first female chief was given to Aesun.
Apart from her, no other characters are based on real life. It's all fictional.
Does anyone know why did IU play the role of her characters daughter as well?
The writer of the drama simply choose her. IU said that Lim Sang Chun (the writer) called her for the first time and invited her to her place to see this script. This was around 2022. IU went there alone without her agency knowing this offer first. I think Lim Sang Chun wants the mother and daughter to be played by the same actress and calling IU personally to further discuss how the story will go proves that.

I was just clarifying that the story isn't based on a real life couple since neither the director nor the writer say such things.
And yes I agree, the drama feels relatable because these situations happen in real life. The writer spent so much time in Jeju listening to the locals' stories.

The only character inspired by a real person is Kyungja, one of the three haenyeos. Hong Kyungja was the first female fishing village chief and a haenyeo. In 2004, she was elected village chief unopposed. Baek Jiwon's character is named after her, and Aesun's journey to becoming chief is also based on Kyungja's life. This is why Kyungja appears beside Aesun in Sanggil on that scene in Episode 5.
True. But I think the drama's poster somewhat mislead the audience into thinking this was mainly focused on IU…
Tbf the first poster was only meant for the volume 1 which is the spring season. You can tell who will be the focus on each posters. IU also said before airing that her and Bogum is for spring and summer only while MSR and PHJ for autumn and winter.
