Great version

I loved this version. Between the acting and the script, it was a much sweeter, less dramatic show. Elements like his parents and the potential female love rival are barely footnotes, leaving a lot more room to develop the relationship between the two leads and the daughter. I thought FL’s character was great, upbeat but not annoyingly so. I could see her being 18 without seeming childish. She can initiate and navigate mature conversations about their relationship and wants to work through their issues with open dialogue, not…jumping out of a box wearing rabbit ears (you know which one I’m talking about).

ML in this version broke my heart. I’ve seen some versions where he’s just angry the entire time; and don’t get me wrong, he has every reason to be angry—but my question then becomes why hasn’t he just divorced her already? This ML is so obviously still in love with her that he can’t quite let go, even with what she’s done. I don’t know if Charon and/or the writers did this intentionally, but he really does come off like the victim (of domestic abuse) that he actually is. That’s a much more interesting subplot than family drama or love squares, at least for me. Honestly, I could write an entire character study on him.

The reason I took off half a star for the story is because all the rest of that goodness left basically no room for the weird writer plot twist, and I think they would have done better to scrap that part of the story altogether for this version. I feel like they even kind of wanted to, it was so randomly tagged on at the end, like, “Oops, we gotta get that thing with the writer in, just give him a couple scenes.”

Overall 10/10, and will for sure be a multiple rewatch for me.
