Title The Guilty Spoiler
One thing I have noticed and come to hate with Taiwanese/Chinese thrillers/detective dramas is this eager/dogged/unwavering detective that's close to or has history with the leads and is hell bent on catching them for whatever misguided sense of justice. So i have to ask what is Justice? You can see it in shows like "Had i not seen the sun" "Persona" "Tender Light" and now "The guilty". The leads suffer so much from the bad guys throughout their lives, some even report to the police but yet nothing is done. The leads bear an unimaginable level of mental, emotional and even physical violence but the police do nothing or are uninterested. When the leads have now been pushed to the point of no return, when it is literally life or death and they choose their life but the death of their tormentors, SUDDENLY the dogged detective appears, the most hardworking and smartest do-no-wrong detective with an inexhaustible source of determination must bring the leads to justice. If you were this determined with your job in the first place we would not be here???? And the sad ending arrives, the leads either die or end up in jail and the show wraps up with justice has been served. After watching the show i am left with sadness as i feel it is all a waste, what is the point of one standing up for themselves? choosing and refusing to be broken? God knows what kind of justice is being served in China because this trope is just bullshit and says "Hey just stand there and take it, don't defend yourself" what a load of horseshit!
