Entertaining fusion striking a nice balance between drama and comedy.
There's much to love about the twists and turns in Romantic Guesthouse. My only peeve here? The way the writer set up the FL's moral dilemma.
I mean, we all are very aware that FLs in more conventional kdrama are built to go "instant stupid" after falling for the ML. That's more about managing the viewership's emotional responses to gender stereotypes than the character itself. So, no real surprises here either.
But you could run an aircraft carrier through Dan-Oh's morals blind spot in the first couple of eps . Dan-Oh has zero clue that turning in the people she's looking for means handing them off to be murdered? Bearing that in mind, the writers have her first saving Kang San, only to then have her search his room to find out if she can hand him in?
Suspension of of disbelief is a powerful tool but I was struggling to buy that barrel of rotting fish. Fortunately, the ensemble acting kept me going until the narrative evened out.
