He's somewhere in the gray. He definitely did some sketchy things in the past that the director used to blackmail him. I think he does genuinely care about the Chen family and is a somewhat "nice guy" but he's easily cowed and can be weak-willed.

it was the godfather. He thought he was going to become Director. I think the date was circled because that was the day of the announcement when he was expecting good news.

Totally agree! I still loved TES (die-hard romantic at heart), but this is a MUCH healthier relationship from the beginning and throughout. Very similar to my husband and me: we were friends who spent time together, dated for 4.5 years, and we just celebrated our 15th anniversary. Life is crazy, but our relationship and care for each other has always been a strong, steady anchor through all of it.
