Best Starter Package For New Chinese Drama Watchers
Honestly, "Fairyland Lovers" is probably the best, and let’s be real, maybe the only, Chinese drama you’ll actually enjoy if you’ve had a bad experience with them, are brand new to C-dramas, or just need something cozy and romantic. It’s one of those shows you can relax with after a tough day, and it will likely put a smile on your face.The chemistry between Lin Xia and Bai Qi is beautifully written. But beyond that, I have to mention the supporting roles of Xiao Bing and Ming De. They deserve a big round of applause. Those two characters really carried the show, adding depth to the storylines and creating genuine emotional connections with the main leads. They were just wonderful.
Now, my big disappointment. The drama had very little focus on the historical background of the main characters. Sure, there were some small hints scattered throughout the episodes, but it just wasn’t enough. And Lin Jian Nan? He’s an immortal? There was no foreshadowing for that in the earlier episodes; it just gets dropped on you at the end. That bothered me.
Honestly, though, the drama is well-written. It hits all the right notes: the fluff, the romance, all the emotions, and some really great comedic moments. It was all just wonderful, which is why I personally rated it a 10/10. But yeah, that historical perspective felt almost useless and unnecessary. Even if it added some depth to the storyline, I really hoped the writers would have focused on it as much as they did on the characters' present lives.
Overall, this is a solid recommendation for anyone new to Chinese dramas. The writers and directors did a great job with this one.
