you’re almost right. zhang meng is the producer of blossom and for this show. she hounded him for 3 months (she said it herself during a press con for this show) to accept the role which he had turned down at first. rebirth started filming when blossom started airing. meng ziyi congratulated lyr for the start of filming during a blossom promo tho he didn’t join the cast of rebirth until january 2025 which is when he had finished filming yummy3.

the ML turned this project down when it was first offered to him but zhang meng hounded him for 3 mos to take it. let’s call it paying back a favor.

after signing the guy, the producer casted her one pick as the FL. wanted her and was stubborn about that. even said she waited for her to grow up to play the sequel. capital wanted to push her to be the next big thing as quick as possible. even before the show started to air, cnetz were all calling for boycotts she didn’t budge nor consider ai face swap. that’s how much she wanted this particular FL.

also, her agency pairs her up with older men in her projects yet only this show gets roasted and moralized about that issue 😭this is the real red flag. an agency meant to protect her but no one is advocating for her to turn down projects not suitable for her age.

do you have any proof about zhang meng wanting zly back? because she literally picked hytt for this role even saying they waited for her to grow up and shoot the sequel. saying this was her coming of age gift for her. Also, the promotions are centered around the ML because of the FL’s issues, but just watch the show and you can see it’s FL centered. she has the most screentime and the show revolves around her.

if you’re a book fan wanting the show to faithfully follow the source, better not watch. but the show’s plot isn’t that bad and everyone’s acting was on point so it’s still worth watching for me

I feel the exact same way. In blossom, the director and scriptwriter were good and the primary reason the drama did well. It also helped that the supporting actors mostly could carry their weight and the ML did the hard lifting acting wise for her. If you’ve ever watched any of her other dramas, you’ll know what i mean about her acting.

For this drama however, i read on rednote (a user does analysis based on set leaks) that the scriptwriter changed quite a bit of the original story to give the FL more scenes and highlights 😅And i’m a bit nervous about this director as she loves to do numerous takes that delays the entire shooting time. According to 1 netizen, she’s meticulous about small scenes but then rushes thru the big scenes

unfortunately, there are things they have to make open for interpretation to get around censorship. also, the drama ran out of funds towards the end so some things were not filmed / properly explained anymore 😅

blossom is my favorite cdrama but her acting on that show was an anomaly for her tbh. hopefully the ML and the director pulls thru for her and this show would be okay

it’s been said in the drama that their ancestor married into the woman’s family. So pei fei married a woman surnamed Shen and then he took on her last name and became a Shen as well

just gonna add in that when the news broke about mzy being the FL, her agent went to work buying hot searches that portrayed DW negatively. unfortunately, it also coincided with his 8th debut anniversary. so you can hopefully understand their animosity against MZY being the FL. It came to a point that they said any FL will do as long as it’s not her.

JSK is infamous in the c-entertainment business about doing underhanded tricks and buying hot searches that are unflattering to the costars. They say he has no morals and no bottom line when it comes to doing his work. so yeah…

Anyway, this casting is already a lock in. There will be nothing his fans can do about it other than boycott and not support the drama when it comes out

pei fei did pass on the story about lin yan. that’s how his descendant (FL’s grandfather) was able to tell the story about him to his grandchildren but he co-opted lin yan as their ancestor cuz he felt pei fei wasn’t grand enough and only telling the truth of their real ancestor to the brother. It was also told that lin yan married lady shen but the names were not remembered.

they went to the mansion to shoot a commercial but also because they believed lin yan was their ancestor from their grandfather’s stories. they even bowed to the portrait for ancestral worship.

tbh, the show was quite low budget and accdg to cnetz it ran out of budget towards the end. explains why there are a lot of plot holes and how other characters weren’t shown or given closure to their stories.

it wasn’t shown in the drama that lin yan told pei fei but he did know that the shen’s ancestor was pei fei so it is assumed that he spoke of his memories to him so that it’d pass down to his descendants.

The portraits were in Lin Yan’s mansion but the story passed down acted like a lure to the Shens of the future to go to the mansion and trigger the time travel.

Anyway, this is just a theory to connect the story fragments since the screenwriters never did clarify anything and close the plot holes.

i read comments from cnetz saying that everyone’s memories of the shen family went away because they weren’t really supposed to be there so when they vanished, the past corrected itself it and erased everything related to their time in ancient yongan. ML never forgot because of his stubborness in clinging on to the love he shared with the FL and his memories of the shen family.

as he remembered everything, he made sure to tell his good friend pei fei (the real ancestor) the story so that hundreds of years later, his descendant (FL) would hear about it and then travel back in time to find him and relive the story again. making it a closed loop. also, it is assumed that ML redid the drawing of FL portrait and pei fei and his descendants was the one who hung those portraits.

it’s because she was very sheltered so she’s very naive and trusting. and she made a small gesture of kindness (sparing her life and giving her water) from the jinxiu prince as something more.

almost died from boredom trying to finish this show. ultimately dropped it since i couldn’t take it anymore. The leads have absolutely no chemistry and the ml and sml seems to look so similar to each other that i kept confusing them (never happened to me before this show)
