Unpopular opinion: I LOVED IT
You need to find the right time for this drama. I dropped it once but later picked it up again and loved it. I’ve never dropped a Shin Hye Sun drama before, but it just wasn’t the right time for this one.
Honestly, I think the main male character, Jung Hyun Oh, is getting way too much hate in Dear Hyeri. People exaggerate his mistakes and judge him without really understanding his story, his past, or the situations he’s been through. Sure, he isn’t perfect, but seeing his development and emotional depth, the harsh criticism just feels unfair. A lot of viewers jump to conclusions without empathy, ignoring the struggles he goes through. Most of the comments are taken out of context and overly harsh. I genuinely feel like he deserves to be understood more, and the show and the character shouldn’t be treated so unfairly.
Also, Eun Ho and his love story is precious. Their relationship, the way they care for and understand each other, is one of the most meaningful parts of the show.
While I do think he should have told her everything, that doesn’t change the fact that throughout all those years apart, he loved her, cared for her, and protected her. Part of the criticism toward the character might even stem from the way the actor portrayed him, rather than the character himself. Their relationship, and the way he stayed devoted to her despite everything, is truly meaningful and shouldn’t be overlooked.
