I haven't read the novel, so I might be totally wrong, but my theory on Ciar and Mekhin is as follows; Ciar was…
I am not going to lie to you - you are very damn close for not having read the novel! it's almost weird how accurate it kind of is!
Spoiler from here how it actually is in the novel:
Ciar was a human who got tricked into being sacrificed by a cult that believed drinking blood could make them younger. Methus (Mark’s character) found him just before he was about to die. Right before basically dying, Ramil asked him if he wanted to live again, which, obviously, he did, since… well, he is still in the series. Honestly, I think anyone would be pretty mad at most humans after being offered up to a cult like that.
Mekhin was a military doctor when he was alive, but one thing led to another and he ended up getting hurt. His last wish was to say goodbye to his family, and Ramil helped him do that. The problem was that after he was turned, Mekhin hadn't learned to control himself, and when he woke up/gained cousciousness, he had already killed many people close to him, including his own family. Because of that guilt, he decided to keep helping people and continued working as a doctor.
Ramil (Boun) is actually kind of funny. He can be funny. That doesn’t mean the story is a comedy or a joke. I would honestly rather watch a vampire who knows how to live a little and maybe crack a smile… than one who sulks in the shadows and kills someone every ten minutes just to prove how dark and edgy he is.
Also, let’s be clear: Romance is not the main focus of the story. I have seen the Revamp account post some cute behind-the-scenes moments that wasnt in the book, so yeah they have added a little more like that in the story, it happens. But if you are throwing the entire series in the trash because of 45 seconds of humor in a 3.5-minute trailer… come on. That´s not critique, that’s just an overreaction-
As for the fight scenes… I saw people calling them "weird" or "cheap". Personally, I didn’t see much wrong with them. They kind of come out of nowhere in the trailer, sure — there´s no context, but they didn’t look bad.
Do I think it was a perfect trailer? No, not at all. But the level of hate this series is already getting before it’s even out is honestly exhausting. There is so much we haven’t seen or been told yet — and some of you already decided it’s not worth watching? please
So yeah. Maybe Revamp isn’t going to be your ideal dark, gritty vampire BL, but it doesn't deserve to be buried alive before it's even aired. Give it a chance, or at least wait until episode one drops before dragging it through the mud.
