Gurl! No wonder I liked Yu Wan Yin in the vertical drama version because she was played by you! Thank you casting director for casting this girl! ❤️❤️❤️
I've watched the anime years ago. Maybe about ten years ago? I also started reading the novel then but I was too busy with school so I dropped it.
I dunno how I feel. I expect A LOT from this adaptation but at the same time I do not want to expect anything. So far, I've only considered one drama to be slightly better than their source material and since it's 2025, I'm hoping, SINCERELY hoping for this to be on par with the light novel.
A little bit of spoiler though, the MC (FL) is 16 and the ML is 26 ay the start of the novel. Oof..
''watching Back From The Brink after reading the novel.'' oh boy another relatable person!!!I used to read that…
Gurrrrrrrl Me being frustrated is an understatement while watching the adaptation. From the get go, I was already pissed that they made Yan Hui weak when originally, she was even considered a 'genius' in their sect.
This was also my first drama watching Zhou Ye, and the third drama I've ever watched (or was it the fourth?). She didn't have much effect on me at first because of the drastic change of the character she played. But when she cried by the river when Tian Yao disappeared, that's when she caught my attention.
And now with her latest drama, Female General, I love her even more. She's so cute and contrary to her role in BFTB, her character is waaaaay better than the novel.
35 minute airtime is criminally short. Other dramas reach 45-50 mins. Why not give us extension for this gem?? T_T
Also, the revelation scene of He Yan to her buddies, her reprimands to Li Kuang, and her raising the morale of the female victims deserved their scenes to be marinated a little more to really let the emotions settle to the viewers. *sigh* we are nearing the climax so I guess more scenes like this will happen – shorter than they deserve. I wish we could watch mooooreeee!
Thank you so much for your comment! It’s nice to know I’m not the only one feeling this way. I’ve had a…
I forced my self to finish the series just to see how they're going to resolve all the conflicts that resulted from the FL's actions. Also, the actors are highly-skilled though not on the same level. This is also my first LYN drama so I was in for a surprise. I only read the plot and didn't do research on the actors. I even mistook Li Yi Tong for Bailu (rookie mistake).
I admit I'm biased against the FL because I've watched/read other FLs who have little to no knowledge about the story they transmigrated into but at least they were able to navigate through the story because they used their wit.
Here, as you've said, she has cheat codes but wasn't able to utilize them without the help of the ML and her little sister (Thank all-strong-fls for the little sister!). I've long wished for the little sister to smack the FL hard accross her face using the back of her hand.
I may come across as mysogynistic. Maybe I am having internalized misogyny, but that's not my purpose. The reason why I'm frustrated with the FL is because I feel insulted as one of those who read/watched a lot of tropes since childhood, I feel misrepresented as a reader who have learned no practical knowledge from reading.
Bestie, you explained my thoughts better than I did. I agree with everything you said. I had high hopes in this series since it's an original and not based on any source material. But boy oh boy am I more diappointed watching this than watching Back From The Brink after reading the novel.
I tried liking the FL but they made it imposssible. I gave a chance for her to develop until ep. 10, but to reach more than 20 eps and still no character development?
Nope.
It would've been better if the younger sister was the FL.
Am I the only one who is very annoyed by the FL? She is sooo dense to the point of stupidity. No wonder her character didn't rise in popularity. Rising someone's status includes wit and I'm not seeing any of it. The fact that she's been in the entertainment industry from a young age and finds it difficult to navigate through the script's plot is shows how incompetent she is as a character.
Take for example, the blank Weapon Forging process, either ginger soup or fire is used to reveal hidden messages from blank sheets of paper and the thought never even crossed her mind the moment she saw it. Instead, just went on blaming the screenwriter.
Also, has she thought about it clearly, since the ML of the script cannot kill her on his own accord, she would've thought that the characters may be as is but have the autonomy to think for themselves. Instead of going against it, she could've made plans to utilize their autonomy to still follow the 'good ending route' of the main couple without having to plant more animosity between the ML and the SML.
The only reason I'm still watching this series is beacause of the actors. They are all highly-skilled but the writing is killing me inside.
I also don't like reading the novel first but I did 😭 and yes there are some disappointment but I love the…
Back from the Brink ruined it for me, but this adaptation is also the reason why I started this series. It's because of Zhou Ye. She improved in her action scenes, and as always, she has superb acting skills.
I believe He Yan saying, "I love the moon, but the moon doesn't know" is a love confession (obviously lol). My reason is that 'moon' in Chinese is 'yue', which rhymes with 'Jue'. And UGHHH! My heartstrings are tied into knots after that.
Also, let's not forget that the one who enjoyed pretending to be married the most is Xiao Jue. The latest arc is the first time we see him smile the most.
Edit: I'm also planning to read the source material after the drama. I've learned my lesson after reading reading the novels first then get disappointed with the adaptations.
