this was a 4 hour long angst filled harrowing story that I have not seen among cdramas for some time, mostly because…
yeah they really played into the do not mess in other familys drama etc, even if you knew what was happening/loved her. I really expected the ML to at least step in and stop when she was in the dungeon but it didnt happen... Q_Q

There seems to be a S2 and from the preview it looks to be more of the same, she stated she will never share her man but she gives in and seems the scheming SFL is there again.

Funny you should mention Scarlett Heart as i rewatched this the other week, luckily IU and BWS have a better relationship in their newest one rather than him being the scummy ex XD

The Character Riddle @ 40:10 and its meaning.
Character Riddles have a long tradition and go back to ancient times where Chinese characters are used for their visual puns to create an entirely different meaning to what the riddle states at a glance.

In this context, it has been used as a form of literary mockery, where it seems beautiful or nature-focused on the surface but is actually a "hidden insult".

The Riddle functions as a puzzle where you mentally remove or rearrange parts of Chinese characters to reveal the hidden meaning, this specific one is attributed to Wu Zhaolin | 吳兆霖, a Qing Dynasty scholar/

1. "Birds fly from the shade" | 鳳來禾下鳥飛去
The Character: 禿 | Bald

To get the character above, we need to start with the character for Phoenix (鳳). If the "bird" (鳥) part "flies away" (is removed), you are left with the outer frame (几). When this frame is placed "under the grain" (禾), it forms the character 禿 (Bald).

2. "Grass dies by the reed" | 馬到蘆邊艸不生
The Character: 驢 | Donkey

In riddle, the character for Reed is 蘆. If the "grass" (艸/艹) "does not grow" (is removed), you are left with 盧. When the "horse" (馬) "arrives" (is added) to the side, it forms the character 驢 which is Donkey.

Combined, this forms the Chinese characters "禿驢" (Bald Donkey) which is a very derogatory/religious slur against Buddhists - hence why in the drama they were thrown out of the temple as the Head Monk was enraged.
