Are we watching the same show?
I feel like I'm watching a different show from the rest of the reviewers.Let me start by saying the story, production, costumes and music are all fantastic.
However, there are two bad actors I can't see past. One is the female lead and the second is the male support role (Chen He Yi).
It really feels like the male lead is carrying the whole show. He's the main character you get any emotion and chemistry from.
I understand that the FL plays a hardened general but that doesn't mean she needs to be stoic 99% of the time. She has like 2 expressions, and doesn’t give off chemistry or sparks. This is not acting.
I have to say the same about CHY, the male support. This happens to be the third drama I've seen him in (Perfect Match and The Princess Royal are the other two) and he always disappoints. Little expression, and many times even seems to just deliver the wrong facial reaction in a given situation.
It's really a shame because the story is good but it needed a few cast replacements in my opinion.

Warning: Post-series depression afterwards
You'll definitely feel empty after you finish this show because you'll miss the main two characters so much!Perfectly cast. Neo Hou is brilliant at conveying emotion with just his eye contact and microexpressions. Loved the chemistry between the two leads. Hope to see them co-star in something again!

Who doesn't love a good mystery?
What an adventure! I loved that there were so many interesting and unique cases to solve and the funny and heartfelt relationship between the 3 main male leads. The pacing was good and i felt everything was explained clearly and made sense from beginning to end. It was nice to take a break from romance-heavy dramas and turn to something more bromance!Was this review helpful to you?

After all that, why the disappointing end?
The Double has all the elements I love: revenge plot, witty scheming, martial arts, good chemistry between leads. The entire story is played out like an elaborate and strategic chess game.The two leads were wonderfully cast. The FL has such a memorable face and perfectly portrays the determination of her character. The ML is strong and exudes playfulness and confidence beyond what I'd expect for such a young actor.
My biggest complaint is the ending. It was so unnecessary that 15 mins before the show ends, the ML loses both his sidekicks in a war? What's the point when the show ends in 10 mins....!?
Yes, I watched the special episode ending but it just felt like they slapped a band-aid on to say "he's alive!" Not everyone will see the special though and the greater audience will be left hanging. Not cool!

For those who like murder mysteries!
Eeep! This was so good. So many cases and satisfying twists and turns. I appreciate the details of the cases and the ancient autopsy techniques used and demonstrated throughout.Perfect cast chemistry too! The leads are so cute and the camaraderie with the secondary characters is developed very well too. Feels like a tight gang!
Highly recommend for mystery and thrill seekers.

Beautifully painful
I gave everything a 10 except for rewatch value because of how much crying there is. If you're looking for an uplifting watch, this is not the show for you.There is pain on pain on pain; almost every episode is a slow burn of tears rolling down cheeks. There's very little relief for the heart.
That being said, the production is beautiful and ensures that each character is loveable and has their own developed arc.
The cases that the crew tackle all illustrate great storytelling, are rooted in creative mythology, and all make sense when woven into the bigger picture.
10/10 drama
