Sci-fi catfishing was REAL
I went in thinking I was getting a space travel / parallel universe drama. I was ready. I was excited. And then the show said “what if it’s actually a memory erasing storyline” and I was like... oh. Okay. Not sure what I was expecting, maybe full sci-fi, but this was clearly not it. The whole space travel thing was basically a clowning plot because the big reveal is that there is no rich life waiting for her. This IS her life. She’s the real Jiang Xiao Yuan. And honestly I get the breakdown. Cuz Wdym I’m poor, my dad isn’t rich AND I have to work? Devastating.
Let’s talk about the ML. When she tells him she’s not his lover, he’s like “okay, we can be friends.” Cute. But the moment it’s proven she’s someone else in his lover’s body, his personality does a full 360 and he gets so rude and cold, like she personally chose to take that body. Bro. It was unhinged and I have not forgotten it.
also, what exactly does Qi Lian DO for a living??? one phone call and suddenly he has information, connections, money, and investments in half the businesses in the city. bro is a walking cheat code. His entire wardrobe also had me thinking he was one wand away from auditioning for harry potter. unfortunately, the wardrobe was doing more acting than his facial expressions sometimes.
And his acting... I cannot stress enough how bad he is with expressions. I counted two. Two expressions for the entire series, and it was hard to watch.
The FL’s acting is so good. She's genuinely such a pretty crier that i started wondering if the director was finding excuses to make her cry every episode.
The salon and makeup storyline also went on a little too long for me. I get that it’s important for her growth, accepting the life she has and making something out of it, but it was stretched way more than it needed to be.
Overall it wasn’t the show I signed up for, but the FL’s performance and the emotional moments kept me watching till the end.
