The adaptation shows Xie Jiu dying, but because I've read the novel, I wasn't convinced that he was actually dead. I even said I was sure he's alive because that's what happens in the novel, and I was hoping the special episode would eventually reveal that his death wasn't real. And honestly, I don't think you've watched the special episode, since it seems you too only watched up to episode 30 because you said "I'd completed all 30 episodes" without including "special episodes". If you haven't watched the special episode, then of course you're going to conclude that he really died based on what you've seen so far. But even if it wasn't shown in the special episodes, you'll still conclude he really died. REAL DEAD.

yes, me too. It got me confused too. I saw a little clip of Wu Laoguo and Zhang Qishan adventuring. In that clip, it's not snowing or not winter. But in the novel, it's winter. He followed Zhang Qishan to ask the question about the deaths of Black Back the Sixth, Banjie Li, Zhang Qishan's soldiers. Because he sacrificed them/killed them. Zhang Qishan didn't give an answer. But he murmured to himself that "Someone should take the role of being hated.".
