i was honestly disturbed while listening to their confessions. my mind was completely blown by the fact that someone could find excitement in causing pain to others. many of the criminals in the series had traumatic childhoods. some grew up with abusive fathers who constantly beat them, while others suffered sexual abuse when they were young. as they grew older, some of them eventually became monsters themselves and committed terrible crimes in an attempt to fill a void inside them or make themselves feel alive.
people often say, "villains are not born; they are made by society or by the trauma they carry." while there may be some truth to that, it does not excuse their actions. a traumatic childhood can explain someone's behavior, but it can never justify harming innocent people. at the same time, society also plays a role. sometimes we hurt others without even realizing it, and those wounds can stay with them for years. in that sense, we may unknowingly contribute to creating the very monsters we fear.

my journey with this drama was a little unusual. i first started watching it back in may, but i ended up dropping it around episode 4 because, at the time, i found it a little boring. i think the slow pace was the main reason. however, after picking it up again recently, i finally understood why i dropped it before. i was rushing through it and focusing too much on finishing it instead of simply enjoying the story and taking my time with it.
this time, i watched it at a much more relaxed pace, and it completely changed my experience. from the very beginning, i found myself enjoying it so much more. i quickly became attached to the lead couple, mo eun-a and yeon tae-seo. they were both so young, adorable, and full of chemistry that it was impossible not to root for them.
one of the biggest highlights of this drama for me was the female lead's performance. she was incredibly charming and brought so much warmth to her character. as the story progressed, i found myself becoming even more invested in both eun-a and tae-seo. honestly, they were the biggest reason why i kept watching.
there were moments when i felt that certain parts of the story became a little messy or complicated. there were even a few scenes where i wanted to skip ahead. however, i never did because i wanted to experience the story exactly as it was meant to be watched. despite some flaws, the drama always managed to pull me back in with its emotional moments and the relationship between the main characters.
what made eun-a and tae-seo so special to me was how genuine their connection felt. i felt so happy whenever they were together, and at the same time, i felt heartbroken whenever they were apart. one of the moments that stayed with me was when eun-a mentioned that seeing tae-seo made her feel at ease. that simple line made their relationship feel even more meaningful and precious.
there were times when other characters got involved in their relationship, and i'll admit that those moments frustrated me because i always wanted more scenes of eun-a and tae-seo together. their relationship was the emotional core of the drama for me, and every moment they shared felt special.
this drama also showed me what first love can feel like. it captures that feeling of comfort, warmth, excitement, and happiness that comes from loving someone for the first time. At the same time, it doesn't romanticize life or pretend that love solves everything.

i originally gave this drama a 9/10 rating, and that score hasn't changed at all — mostly because of tae-seo and eun-a 🥹💘. they're just so adorable together that it's impossible not to love them.
at the same time, i feel so sad whenever they're apart, especially because of how much eun-a misses tae-seo whenever he's not around. she even mentioned earlier that seeing him makes her feel at ease, which made their relationship even more precious to me.
with only three episodes left, i'm hoping that both tae-seo and eun-a find happiness and get the ending they deserve. no matter what happens, i'll always be rooting for them.

i was honestly disturbed while listening to their confessions. my mind was completely blown by the fact that someone could find excitement in causing pain to others. many of the criminals in the series had traumatic childhoods. some grew up with abusive fathers who constantly beat them, while others suffered sexual abuse when they were young. as they grew older, some of them eventually became monsters themselves and committed terrible crimes in an attempt to fill a void inside them or make themselves feel alive.
people often say, "villains are not born; they are made by society or by the trauma they carry." while there may be some truth to that, it does not excuse their actions. a traumatic childhood can explain someone's behavior, but it can never justify harming innocent people. at the same time, society also plays a role. sometimes we hurt others without even realizing it, and those wounds can stay with them for years. in that sense, we may unknowingly contribute to creating the very monsters we fear.
this series genuinely changed the way i view the world. the atmosphere, the characters, and the intensity of the story were incredible. i honestly cannot describe in words how much i enjoyed it. it is one of the best korean thriller/psychological dramas i have ever watched, and i would gladly give it a 10/10 for its outstanding storyline and the phenomenal performances of its actors.
another thing that stayed with me was the way the criminals spoke to detective song ha-young about their crimes. it was honestly terrifying. the smiles on their faces while describing such horrific acts made me feel anxious and uneasy. it reminded me of how complicated human beings can be and how dark the human mind can become.
this world feels crazier with every passing day. we cannot deny that, at times, society contributes to many of these problems. in my country, women are often not safe. even when criminals are caught, the punishment sometimes does not feel proportionate to the suffering they have caused. victims and their families carry scars that can last a lifetime.
i sincerely hope that our society becomes safer and freer from these crimes. i hope every woman can feel safe wherever she goes and never have to live in fear. may god watch over all of us, show us his mercy, and protect us wherever we are.
one quote from the series has stayed in my mind:
"i want to believe that people are born evil, but a bigger part of me wants to believe people are born good."
that idea is so complicated. sometimes it feels like people are born with darkness inside them, yet there are also many cases where trauma, abuse, and suffering shape a person into someone they were never meant to become. i do not know the answer, but i do believe that kindness, love, and guidance can make a huge difference in a person's life.
in the end, through the darkness was much more than a crime drama. it was a story about human nature, trauma, justice, empathy, and the choices people make. it left me thinking long after i finished it, and that is why i consider it one of the best dramas i have ever watched.
