i am 100% confused is his existence completely erased?
technically, yes, his existence was really erased. but what remained was like, just some vague memories of him. but it's not like a 'real' memory. it's like a very vague distant memory, at least that's how it is for Haowei. a deja vu that appears in your dream. so fractions of him might still linger or hidden away in some people's mind. and yeah, Xixi remembers him too somehow even though her memory of him was also changed. i also don't know how Xixi still can remember him, this part is indeed not explained, but maybe she has special powers or something so she is like an exception/special case i guess. and in EP 10 preview, it seems like Haowei might remember some things. so there's that.
It seems the timelines are overlapping.Li Wan Zhe has completely forgotten He Ziang Yong, and Hama-chan has completely…
at first, i also thought that Xiangyong being completely erased was the shooting stars granting his wish. but i think after thinking about it, it was also a consequence/price to pay. basically both Xiangyong and Li Wanzhe got the consequences, which is having the things they want taken away from them. Xiangyong did want to disappear, but the reason he wanted to disappear was because he was not happy with his life and the problems he had. but now, he actually got what he wanted, his debt problem was taken care of, his relationship with his dad got better, and he cleared misunderstanding with Haowei and got together with him. THAT is what he really want behind the wish 'wanting to no be He Xiangyong', and that's what was taken away from him. same with Li Wanzhe, his wish also got taken away from him. so both are facing more or less the same consequence. at least that's how i see it so far. or, we can also think that the shooting star only granted Wanzhe's wish temporary. if that's the case, Xiangyong got the worse consequences because on top of it being just temporary, the price he has to pay was him being erased too.
i would like to REALLY disagree with this. you can't get rid of the shooting star without it affecting the ENTIRE…
brainrot people really think writing 6 paragraphs like this is an amazing feat or something? lol ChatGPT and AI really ruined all of you. do you not know that educated people exists who are used to articulating their thoughts? and i literally just do it in my free time, i treat watching BL series like a hobby, being a fan is a hobby, and talking about my hobby makes me happy. and i wasn't even talking about the actors? i was literally talking about the characters and the series. i don't know what you're going through that your mind is so negative like that. miserable people usually have miserable lives. when people have a bad life usually they need to take it out on people. but i hope your life gets better. but thank you for the lesson that next time i should just ignore dumb comments from miserable people who hate their life.
I'm sooooo sad because we only have 3 more episode left. but EP 9 is another good one!!
this episode really captures the pain of being forgotten by the people you love. watching Xiangyong go through this all over again gives me deja vu to EP 1 & 2 where no one recognized him. but this time it's soooo much worse and painful, not just because he had to go through the same (but worse) things again, but because his entire existence is erased this time. he can't use anything to prove anything anymore, he can’t even attempt to convince the people he knows that he is Xiangyong because Xiangyong just simply no longer exists anymore.
that opening scene of Xiangyong being erased in Haowei's memory was so sad. it kinda gives me the same feels when watching the memories get erased in the movie "Eternal Sunshines Of The Spotless Mind" (a classic which i also really love). i just realized that there are actually some similar lessons that i get both from this series and that movie. such as, you cannot run away from your problem or erase your mistake, because only through that, you can learn and grow. if you choose to forget it, or wish for your problems to just disappear, then you will never grow because you cannot learn your lesson through it. so basically you cannot run away from it. you will keep repeating it unless you finally face it and learn from it. yes, facing your problems is difficult and can be a painful process, but it is necessary for you to grow.
but the good thing is that, it seems like it's much easier to convince Haowei this time because of that lingering sense of deja vu. it feels like even though the memories are gone/hidden, the feelings remained, and the heart remembers. and maybe the memories are not really gone but just hidden away or locked away somewhere deep in their minds, so maybe it's not completely gone.
i’m really curious though why Xixi is the only one who still remembers Xiangyong? her memory was also affected, she said Xiangyong was never her editor (because he was still erased from her memory), but somehow she remembers him enough to call him? is it because she has special powers?
and i also really love the epilogue in this episode, because it gives us new information about the shooting stars. that epilogue literally connects/ties back to what Haowei was doing in EP 1 at the beach, the night that the shooting stars incident happened. it turns out Haowei was at the exact same location shown in the picture that teenager Xiangyong had sent him. Haowei was probably there to reminisce or something, throwing stones into the sea. and by doing that, Haowei indirectly helped make Xiangyong and Wanzhe's wishes come true. but i wonder, did Haowei also make his own wish that night? or did he just unintentionally help them?
there’s also a very nice message in this episode that i have been reflecting on. it made me think about this: would you rather live a life without problems but also without the meaningful people in your life, OR would you face the problems in your life anyway but by having those important people around you that makes life feel worth fighting for? i saw someone here commented that ‘maybe being a loser is still better than being completely forgotten’ and yeah this episode really makes me reflect and think about that.
when Xiangyong made his wish, he technically solved his problems, but the cost was that he now feels alone and empty because everyone has forgotten him. even if things are hard, having these important people around you gives your life meaning and support. for me, it shows that a ‘good’ life isn’t just about having a life without obstacles or struggles, it’s also about having people who are meaningful to you. these meaningful human connections are what makes life bearable, meaningful, and worth fighting for amidst all the challenges. meaningful connections with others helps you get through difficult times. because honestly, even if you solve one problem, another one will come anyway. the shooting star incident really allows us to reflect on this. even if life is hard, having people by your side gives you strength to keep going. and having no one meaningful around is far more painful than any hardship itself.
there are 3 more episodes left, but there are still quite some things i am curious about. some important scenes haven’t been revealed yet. like the jumping into the water scene, and the drowning scene. i’ve always wondered what pushed them to do that. Xiangyong jumping into the water could be him trying to end himself, i guess? feeling like he caused all the chaos and wanting to put an end to it. but what about Haowei drowning and seemingly grasping stones in the water? is he trying to do something about the shooting star? so curious. honestly i am not ready to part with this series. i have grown so invested and attached to the story and all the characters. but i am also very excited to watch until the end as well because i want to know what happens next. things are getting interesting because it's pretty unpredictable, i'm not sure how this will all end but i have a lot of faith in them.
I really hate the shooting star wish. The series would have been better without it. I mean, you can lift that…
i would like to REALLY disagree with this. you can't get rid of the shooting star without it affecting the ENTIRE story. the life lessons in the series are literally built around the shooting stars incident. it is used to teach the protagonists (and us viewers) a lot of lessons, and it is crucial for Xiangyong character development. here are some of the lessons that i get from it:
first, it shows that wishing for things to change comes with consequences, especially when you want to fix things 'magically'. basically there is always a price to pay for taking the easy way out, and the series explores those unintended consequences well imo, using a ‘what-if’ scenario. i bet a lof of us at some point, even just once, have ever wished that we can fix some things magically. but have we ever thought that deep about the consequences that might come along with it? obstacles and problems can teach us important life lessons and help us grow, and it could also bring us closer to the people around us too, people who truly care about us and love us. mistakes and problems are there so that we can identify what we need to work on, identify what is wrong with us, and help us change to be better. for example, that debt problem actually brought Xiangyong closer to his dad because they can understand each other better. and those mistakes and problem can be a turning point for our lives to really change our life and rethink things. i think this series give us time to think more about those things, and explore the ‘what-ifs’ in our own lives ourselves. in life, we make mistakes and that is just a part of life. we cannot run away from that. we have to learn and grow from our mistakes, take responsibility. if we want to magically fix our problems without working on it, then we will just never learn our lesson and will never grow.
second, it teaches us to appreciate what we already have and not just focus on the bad parts. this one might be cliche, but it's still a good reminder. is every part of your life THAT unfixable that you want to ENTIRELY get rid of it? in the story, we see that Xiangyong’s problems aren’t entirely unsolvable. yes, there are struggles in his life, but there are also good things, he has a supportive community, family, and friends. the problem is that, he’s so focused on the bad parts that he overlooked the good ones. he feels trapped and carries all his problems alone, thinking there’s no way out, so he carelessly wished that he “didn’t want to be Xiangyong anymore”. but by wishing to change his situation, he also lost everyone important to him. later on he realizes that he actually did have precious people who cared about him, and his problems weren’t entirely unfixable. the shooting star incident forces him to see this. it’s a reminder that even when our problems feel overwhelming, we’re not truly alone, there are people around us who support us, you need to at least try to look around and communicate and reach out.
third, another comment here also perfectly pointed out another important lesson. even if Xiangyong’s life before seemed ‘not ideal’, maybe even being a loser is still better than being completely forgotten. when Xiangyong made his wish, he technically solved his problems, but the cost is now he feels alone and empty because everyone has forgotten him. the important question here is that: would you rather live a life without problems but with no meaningful people by your side, OR would you rather face the problems in your life anyway, but with important people around you who make you feel like life is worth fighting for? cause even if things are hard, at least having these people gives your life meaning and support. it shows that a 'good' life isn’t just about having a life without obstacles or struggles, it’s also about having the people around you that are meaningful to you, that makes life bearable and worth fighting for amidst all the problems. it’s important to have meaningful connections with others to help you get through difficult things in life. because even if you solve one problem, another problem will definitely come again anyway. so yeah, I feel like it teaches us that, even if things are bad and difficult, if you have these people around you (family, friends, lovers, etc.), you can get through anything, because they give you strength and support to go on. kinda like that. and having no one meaningful by your side is far more painful than facing any hardships in life, because at least when you have people around you, you don’t face those hardships alone. the shooting star incident made us able to make these comparisons.
so to sum it up, i completely disagree with you, because by removing the shooting stars thing, it would literally remove all these important life lessons the series is trying to teach us or want us to ponder about. the shooting star incident is NOT just some useless tool to move the story forward. it literally gives us a ‘what-if’ scenario where we can reflect and rethink things before wishing for life to change magically. for me personally, it has emotional depth that can drive personal growth and make you appreciate life more. it reminds you to appreciate more the human connections you have with the important people in your life, and to appreciate the people you have those meaningful connections with.
and oh, as for the IG post you mentioned on producer Sammy account, i think the photo of Jed with the facial hair is actually for a completely different, new project, not a time jump for this series. but maybe you can give me the link so i can check? maybe there is something i haven't seen yet.
Looks like director and script writer didn't know what do with 12 episode story. Plot went off the rails
mind to elaborate more about why you think it went off the rails? cause they are showing things exactly like the trailer though. and they are consistently building things up since episode 1 with people slowly forgetting Xiangyong until in ep 9 people completely forget about him. what are the things that you don't understand or confusing to you? just curious
I waited for a few episodes to come out so I wouldn't have to wait every week, and I've just finished watching…
i can relate tbh, but more about the second couple. this also might be an unpopular opinion, but the second couple just doesn't work for me for some reason. they are cute, but i'm just not feeling their story at all and their chemistry is also just... it's not bad, i guess, but it just doesn't attract me. i just feel like there isn't much in it? it just feels like a silly puppy love which later turns into real love. maybe the second couple is there to balance the more angsty main couple. the main couple has grabbed my attention even from the trailer and i completely love their chemistry even more when i watch the series. i think they build up their chemistry very well from ep 1 to ep 8, so many heart-warming moments and exchanges between them that just really warms my heart and their love just feels so gentle, it makes me feel so many things just watching them on the same screen.
Another great episode! EP 8 was basically Xiangyong and Haowei finally resolving things and finally getting together, which felt so satisfactory, because we saw things building up from EP 1. How they slowly get to know each other again, and then clear their past misunderstanding, and finally express their genuine feelings for each other. But, it's actually the calm before the storm. Which is nice for me! Because even after they get together, the story is still gonna be interesting and can be looked forward to, because we still don't know how this will end. This story is so much more than just romance, and that is what i love about it, because there IS a story and plot that makes you curious and want to know more. The shooting stars definitely want to teach a lesson, and in each episode we see that there is development in the ways Xiangyong life was changed, and the relationship between him and the people around him also changed and improved, but is the wish really irreversible even after Xiangyong learned his lesson? Will there be some kind of plot twist or revelations?
There are still many scenes that i am so curious of, like, what's the context. Especially the scene of Xiangyong sitting at the bridge, and the scene of him falling into the water, and the scene of Haowei drowning. Also very curious just who is Long Ge and how come he seems to know about the shooting stars well? I think 4 episodes will be enough to wrap things up nicely and to give us explanations, so i hope that this series can do that well and yeah i'm just excited to watch until the end.
Lastly, yes, that Xiangyong Haowei love scene was really well done. It was beautiful, it is like they are finally able to unleash all the cravings and yearnings they have for each other, for the past 10 years. I saw some people saying they prefer to see less because they are surprised of the sudden explicit scene compared to the previous episodes where it's very family-friendly, but i think the scene fits just fine. They did show skin and such but it was a very gentle love making to me? So it still fits the overall vibes and theme of the show.
The love scene is perfect to me because in my opinion, they portray HaoYong love scene exactly like how the series portray their love story/relationship. It is like slow, unhurried, gentle, intimate, tender, full of emotions and feelings. Just them taking their time to explore each other and conveying their feelings to each other through act of intimacy. If you look at it, even if they show a lot of skins, the focus is not really on the 'act' itself tbh, there is a lot of them just gazing at each other and touching feeling each other, so for me it's more about the intimacy and connection between them, than just simply an NC scene. So i don't think i agree with people saying it is too much, because it feels like you are only looking at the surface without understanding their story, dynamics, and relationship and how it relates to how their love scene was carried out. I think the love scene was very well done.
you talk as if BL series only has to be centered 100% in the romance. which is... weird. you do know BL series…
writing a several paragraphs is actually so easy and you comapre it to writing a book lmao AI and ChatGPT has really ruined yall. go watch boys kissing or porn or something. empty headed dumbass.
The main CP is my favorite, and I absolutely loooove EP 7. After all the emotional and narrative build up since EP 1, it feels so satisfying to finally see them actually express their feelings to each other (indirectly). This episode really gave us the important conversations we’ve been waiting for.
Haowei’s scene especially got me. He’s been carrying so much guilt and regret for the past 10 years, unable to apologize or say what he truly feels to Xiangyong. And when he finally lets it out (even if it’s indirectly through Xiaoyou) you can really feel how emotional he was, how heavy it’s been for him just holding it all inside. The way his voice trembled and tears fell when he said he didn't expect Xiangyong to forgive him but he just simply wishes Xiangyong to be happy, and for Xiangyong to know how special he is, at least to him. It must have been unbearable to just keep it all inside, and that moment of release really hits me in the feels.
I also really love the scene where Haowei arrives at Xingpu Island for the first time and follows the directions precisely as Xiangyong told him back in high school. I kinda wish they have shown it earlier. It might seem like a simple scene, but i really felt it a lot, it hit me with huge wave of nostalgia. Because, wow, he really still remembers everything Xiangyong told him from 10 years ago. From Haowei’s POV, you can really feel his excitement and anticipation, like he’s tracing his way back to Xiangyong, not knowing what to expect, but just being happy at the thought of seeing him again after so long and happy to finally see the place where Xiangyong grew up in, feeling the warmth of the island and the community there.
I feel like the reason it took him so long to finally come see Xiangyong was because of all the doubts and hesitation. He probably blamed himself all the time, thinking he wasn’t good enough as his friend or more, and that Xiangyong might not forgive him. But he definitely hasn't stopped thinking about Xiangyong all this time because of the unfinished feelings, and their story definitely feels unfinished, especially for Haowei, because he didn't really get to explain it more to Xiangyong. So i bet it was really haunting him all this time. On top of that he was also at a low point in his life, dealing with work issues, so i think all of that pushed him to finally come back and seek comfort from someone who has always felt like home to him, which is Xiangyong. And just like Xiangyong's dad said, that island and guesthouse can always be a place where Haowei could come and heal himself when he's tired with life. Going to see Xiangyong and coming to that island is basically Haowei coming to heal himself.
And that ending scene at the pier was the PERFECT build up for me. I like how the emotions and conversations gradually escalate and intensifies as Xiangyong was running out of time and getting more desperate, while at the same time Haowei also started losing his patience because he was getting pushed and having to deal with the constant confusion. It really felt like the emotional peak of the episode. They really just started saying things directly without filters. Also, the conflicting emotions in that scene. Xiangyong is happy because Haowei is that devoted to him, so firm that he wants Xiangyong and no one else, no matter what, even if Xiaoyou is that similar to Xiangyong. But at the same time it’s sad because right now he can’t really be with Haowei as Xiangyong. They're literally confessing their love for each other, but just the wrong circumstance. It's frustrating but i am also very curious and excited to see what will happen next.
Overall i think the shooting star really wants to show Xiangyong and teach him a lesson that his life as Xiangyong was never as bad as he thought, because he has all these precious people around him that makes his life worth living even when there are problems and things get hard. And yeah the plot is gonna be more interesting for sure in EP 8, when everyone finally completely forgets about Xiangyong (even his dad, Li Wanzhe, and Haowei) because the magic is finally gonna take its' full effect of erasing Xiangyong's existence completely, as per his wish in EP 1. It seems like the process of the shooting star granting his wish is a gradual process, they are slowly erasing Xiangyong's existence until it's like he's never born and never existed anymore, and there is only Xiaoyou. But before that happens, based on the preview for EP 8, it also seems that we might get a scene where Xiangyong chase Haowei to the main island and they kinda got together or something? Okay, basically we need to really tune in to EP 8, because it seems like a lot more interesting things are gonna happen!
still can’t believe this just getting 7.7 ratings this deserves much higher!
BL fans have always liked series that is either cute & sweet or sexy & spicy lol this is more like a slice of life without that many sweet scenes or sexy scenes. for a lot of BL fans, the plot and the story is probably secondary to that. i literally saw some comments saying that this series shouldn't even be called BL because they think there is not enough romance in this lmao like wtf.
this series relies more on the emotional storytelling/narrative. and it is more about character development as a person, than solely just romance. so, yeah, we know why. and also, this is a more adult-themed story about family and life and hometown. this is not the typical university or school or mafia/dark theme, that would cater more to BL fans. this is Fantasy BL which is not that common, but for me it's very heart-warming and comforting, though it's quite mundane (for me, that's the charm. but it might be boring for some people), so maybe why it doesn't sell as well.
i think a lot of people watch BL to get that thrill either from the sweet & cute moments or from the spicy intense stuffs idk. but i truly appreciate the authenticity of this story and how fresh this feels compared to a lot of BLs nowadays. idc if most BL fans cannot appreciate it. i am just glad that it is liked by people who can truly appreciate it.
tbh from the comments here, i am suspecting that most of the viewers and people who love this series is from a more mature audience lol probably people in their 20s/30s/40s. cause some of these issues are more relatable as adult as you grow up.
I’m really curious how he’s going to undo the curse he made on the shooting star and bring everything back…
what happened when his father told Uncle Hua and Auntie Angela about the drawing in EP. 7 was that Xiangyong's existence was gradually being erased and people are starting to forget more things about him and the events involving him just seemed to disappear as if it never happened. in that scene basically Uncle Hua and Auntie Angela forgot an event involving Xiangyong and the event really did seem to just never happened anymore (the drawing disappeared).
Xiangyong made a wish upon the shooting star that he no longer want to be Xiangyong, right? and the shooting star is granting his wish by gradually erasing Xiangyong's existence. first it started with everyone but Li Wanzhe not being able to recognize Xiangyong by his physical appearance (EP 1-6). then in EP. 7 we're shown that some people are starting to forget some things about Xiangyong and events involving Xiangyong seem to just never happened. and by EP. 8 i think everyone will completely forget about him (this is according to the trailer, by the way). so it's a gradual process of Xiangyong not existing anymore. because he made that wish upon the shooting star. which, i think will teach him a lesson or something. but yeah we don't know how this will all end up. this is a Fantasy genre so everything is possible lol
NAH THIS IS TOO GOOD TO BE RATED 7.7 💀 Mdl ratings are a fucking joke
i think at some point you just really kinda have to stop giving a fuck about MDL rating lol cause yeah sometimes it does feel more like a popularity rating rather than a genuine objective rating. and i feel like sometimes BL fans want something that is simple and easy to digest. they just want a lot of cute and sweet and spicy moments between cute guys, that's all. sometimes there are good BLs with good story that hit it big, but having good plot and good production isn't always necessary most of the time. if you have a solid shipper fanbase, those shippers will watch anything made by their favorite ship even if it has bad plot or acting.
They have already forgotten about him. No one's looking for him even though he has been missing for a long time.
yes, we don't know how exactly the magic works but basically the others just cannot recognize the current Xiangyong from his physical appearance. we don't know if Xiangyong just shomehow appears different to them in their eyes, or it's the image of Xiangyong that is being erased/changed inside their own head/memories. either way, yes, people are slowly starting to forget him. first, they cannot recognize him from his apperance (EP 1-6), then in this EP. 7 some of them start to forget some things/events about him, and then by the end of EP. 8 (from the preview they show), it seems like everyone will completely forget about him (you can see this from the trailer), including his dad (his dad no longer has a child so Xiangyong really just never existed) and even Li Wanzhe and Haowei forgets him. from the trailer, this seems to be what will happen next.
They have already forgotten about him. No one's looking for him even though he has been missing for a long time.
it is called a 'Fantasy' genre for a reason lol how the magic exactly works? wo don't know. but basically they just cannot recognize Xiangyong from the apperance, even if he appears the same. and Xiangyong appears the same to US as viewers, but we don't really get the direct POV from the others, so who knows how he looks like from their POV. either Xiangyong apperance look different in their POV or something like that.
I was like props to them for making it look like they were drunk and they were in fact drunk
lol but still props to them that they can deliver all the lines while being drunk though. for me personally i have no problem with that kind of acting method as long as they can still deliver the scene just fine, i'm sure they know their own limit even if they drink to help them perform the drunk acting better. Jed and Mengxuan both said that even though Jed was drunk, his memory was still very clear. and anyway we all know both can act well especially Jed, he can perform many emotional scenes really well. so honestly this one acting method won't make me question their overall acting skills though.
Can someone please explain how the 5 mil debt actually came? From what i remember xiang yong was fired from his…
i think the beginning part of episode 5 is pretty clear although the exact detail is quite vague and questionable, but it is enough to understand the story and what is going on. yes Xiangyong was fired, we knew this since episode 1, but only later did we know that he was also in-debt, this was only later revealed. the company contacted his dad and asked him for the money probably because, as we all know, xiangyong went missing (because he is xiaoyou now, and his phone fell into the sea in episode 1, if you forgot), and cannot be contacted. basically the company and the dad got into contact (do i also have to explain that company usually would have employee data and emergency contact, and usually for emergency contact you would list your family member), and that is how his dad could come to the company. the debt came about because as the company claimed, xiangyong did something wrong in a project, and the company blamed him and kinda imply it was his fault that the project failed, and so he has to bear all the losses. how come he had to bear all the losses himself on his own? (well this part is indeed questionable) but according to the boss, Xiangyong already signed some kind of agreement/contract with the company that probably says that he would bear the loss or something like that if things gone wrong. this exact detail we don't know, like, exactly what kind of contract or agreement he signed with the company, what are the clauses, etc. but what we know is that, xiangyong isn't someone who really dares to speak up or something like that, even if he was unfairly treated, so this personality factor too should be taken into account to understand how he even ended up in this situation with debt. people and companies like to take advantage of timid and kinda 'powerless' people like xiangyong.
EP. 6 really solidifies this series for me. It really shows the essence of this series, which really shines through this episode. some things that have been building up since EP. 1 are starting to take shape.
EP. 5 was full of sadness, helplessness, and frustration. but in EP. 6, things finally start to look up a bit, it is full of heart-warming moments and important conversations. i really love this episode. the people in Xingpu Island coming together and helping out, it just feels so warm and really shows how close the community is, highlighting the importance of human connection/relationships, collectivism, and having a community/support system to help you when things get difficult, and that you don't have to deal with it alone in your struggles. it feels pretty close to real life for me, because in smaller hometowns like this, people tend to be closer and more connected since they’ve probably grown up and lived together for a long time. there’s more of that sense of community where people are willing to show up for each other. so yeah, this series really does a good job showing the warmth and comfort of a hometown, capturing the sense of belonging and close-knit feeling in a natural way.
i really love all the supporting characters aka the residents of Xingpu island. they really add more layer to the story in a very nice way. for me, they are not just filler background characters, because they actually take part in moving the story and the plot. not just that, each of them also somehow play a role and take part in the main characters' growth, realization, and character development. it's also nice to know more about their life. i like how they shared some of Uncle Hua backstory in this episode. it's like a reminder that each one of us have our own struggles and story.
the conversation between Xiangyong and his dad was also really nice. the way Xiangyong can finally say what he feels to his dad, even as ‘Xiaoyou’, acting like he’s speaking on behalf of Xiangyong so his dad can know more about his inner feelings and thoughts. and he also gets to know his dad more too, about his dad's inner feelings and thoughts, which his dad also normally wouldn’t say directly like that to Xiangyong as well for sure. It’s nice they’re finally able to express and communicate things to each other, get some things off their chest that they want the other to know, so that they can slowly understand each other’s side more, even if it’s indirect.
for Xiangyong and Haowei, it’s getting a bit more complicated in a way i actually like. Haowei finally acted on his feelings for Xiangyong and there is confusion, but this is where they have to really confront their unfinished feelings for each other, and figure things out. It’s won’t be easy and still gonna take some time to deal with the confusion and misunderstanding and such, and next episode it’s gonna be another sad moment, but it makes sense for their situation, so i will keep tuning in and looking forward patiently to see how the story unfolds.
also the detail about the drawing that Haowei kept, that really got me. the fact that Haowei kept the torn pieces, put it back together, and still kept it all these years, it just shows he really treasured Xiangyong, which was really sweet. and we kinda get a glimpse of what caused the misunderstanding between them back in highschool.
Overall, it is a very solid first-half for me, and I am totally looking forward to, and excited for the second-half. I think there will be more things going on in the second-half, but let’s just see.
Also, I have seen some comments saying they don't understand this and that. while I do agree that there are still some things that have not been revealed yet, some people are also questioning things that (for me personally) are already shown and quite obvious if you put things together and actually pay attention. and it makes me wonder, for some of you who don't understand it, are you really paying attention to the story, or do you just skip to watch the romance part and spicy stuffs? lol I mean, i know nowadays people's attention span and focus are getting worse, but seriously, some of the questions feel like you aren't really paying attention and not really watching the series, yet have a lot to complain saying this and that is confusing (when it's you who probably did not pay attention).
you talk as if BL series only has to be centered 100% in the romance. which is... weird. you do know BL series…
even if it is family-centered, it is still BL. your wording was wrong from the start, saying 'so little BL content in a BL series'. it IS still BL, it still has romance between boys, just that it has other stories to tell as well. you can just say you wanted more romance instead of saying this is not BL just because it is not like what you want.
'Don’t false advertise it as a BL if it’s barely mentioned' how are they falsely advertising? lmao just ridiculous. it DOES have romance between two guys as one of the main focus. so how is it not BL? i swear that some of you have 0 patience and don't care about the story or plot or character development at all. you think that they should jump straight into kissing or something? or do you mean what is considered BL has to have a lot of skinship and spicy stuffs and kisses etc. in every episode? that is so shallow of you honestly.
you not liking this series is FINE, everyone has their own preference. but you're saying it as if there is something wrong with this series and blaming this series for not being up to your liking, just because it does not fit your preference and expectations. which is ridiculous and childish.
you can just say you want more romance, but you go as far as saying they are false advertising, etc. did you even watch the trailer? the series is giving the same exact vibe as the trailer. and you not understanding a lot of things is probably because you are not even paying attention to the story and narrative, cause all you want is probably romance, right? so stop blaming it on the series just because it isn't your cup of tea. there is a difference there.
ok for the backstory thats fucked up i wouldn't be sitting letting people talk shit abt my friend like this bitch…
he was a popular student, someone who is probably good at everything, model student, kinda like that, so he was probably some kind of a people pleaser. also i think he was kinda just too nice to be rude to that girl. and he was just a teenager as well, maybe he also wants to fit in and be liked by everyone. but yeah i think it's just his people pleasing tendencies. as you know, even when he is sad, he also likes to hide it with a smile. i reckon it's also the same when he's annoyed, he might also like to hide it with a smile.
this episode really captures the pain of being forgotten by the people you love. watching Xiangyong go through this all over again gives me deja vu to EP 1 & 2 where no one recognized him. but this time it's soooo much worse and painful, not just because he had to go through the same (but worse) things again, but because his entire existence is erased this time. he can't use anything to prove anything anymore, he can’t even attempt to convince the people he knows that he is Xiangyong because Xiangyong just simply no longer exists anymore.
that opening scene of Xiangyong being erased in Haowei's memory was so sad. it kinda gives me the same feels when watching the memories get erased in the movie "Eternal Sunshines Of The Spotless Mind" (a classic which i also really love). i just realized that there are actually some similar lessons that i get both from this series and that movie. such as, you cannot run away from your problem or erase your mistake, because only through that, you can learn and grow. if you choose to forget it, or wish for your problems to just disappear, then you will never grow because you cannot learn your lesson through it. so basically you cannot run away from it. you will keep repeating it unless you finally face it and learn from it. yes, facing your problems is difficult and can be a painful process, but it is necessary for you to grow.
but the good thing is that, it seems like it's much easier to convince Haowei this time because of that lingering sense of deja vu. it feels like even though the memories are gone/hidden, the feelings remained, and the heart remembers. and maybe the memories are not really gone but just hidden away or locked away somewhere deep in their minds, so maybe it's not completely gone.
i’m really curious though why Xixi is the only one who still remembers Xiangyong? her memory was also affected, she said Xiangyong was never her editor (because he was still erased from her memory), but somehow she remembers him enough to call him? is it because she has special powers?
and i also really love the epilogue in this episode, because it gives us new information about the shooting stars. that epilogue literally connects/ties back to what Haowei was doing in EP 1 at the beach, the night that the shooting stars incident happened. it turns out Haowei was at the exact same location shown in the picture that teenager Xiangyong had sent him.
Xiangyong jumping into the water could be him trying to end himself, i guess? feeling like he caused all the chaos and wanting to put an end to it. but what about Haowei drowning and seemingly grasping stones in the water? is he trying to do something about the shooting star? so curious. honestly i am not ready to part with this series. i have grown so invested and attached to the story and all the characters. but i am also very excited to watch until the end as well because i want to know what happens next. things are getting interesting because it's pretty unpredictable, i'm not sure how this will all end but i have a lot of faith in them.
first, it shows that wishing for things to change comes with consequences, especially when you want to fix things 'magically'. basically there is always a price to pay for taking the easy way out, and the series explores those unintended consequences well imo, using a ‘what-if’ scenario. i bet a lof of us at some point, even just once, have ever wished that we can fix some things magically. but have we ever thought that deep about the consequences that might come along with it? obstacles and problems can teach us important life lessons and help us grow, and it could also bring us closer to the people around us too, people who truly care about us and love us. mistakes and problems are there so that we can identify what we need to work on, identify what is wrong with us, and help us change to be better. for example, that debt problem actually brought Xiangyong closer to his dad because they can understand each other better. and those mistakes and problem can be a turning point for our lives to really change our life and rethink things. i think this series give us time to think more about those things, and explore the ‘what-ifs’ in our own lives ourselves. in life, we make mistakes and that is just a part of life. we cannot run away from that. we have to learn and grow from our mistakes, take responsibility. if we want to magically fix our problems without working on it, then we will just never learn our lesson and will never grow.
second, it teaches us to appreciate what we already have and not just focus on the bad parts. this one might be cliche, but it's still a good reminder. is every part of your life THAT unfixable that you want to ENTIRELY get rid of it? in the story, we see that Xiangyong’s problems aren’t entirely unsolvable. yes, there are struggles in his life, but there are also good things, he has a supportive community, family, and friends. the problem is that, he’s so focused on the bad parts that he overlooked the good ones. he feels trapped and carries all his problems alone, thinking there’s no way out, so he carelessly wished that he “didn’t want to be Xiangyong anymore”. but by wishing to change his situation, he also lost everyone important to him. later on he realizes that he actually did have precious people who cared about him, and his problems weren’t entirely unfixable. the shooting star incident forces him to see this. it’s a reminder that even when our problems feel overwhelming, we’re not truly alone, there are people around us who support us, you need to at least try to look around and communicate and reach out.
third, another comment here also perfectly pointed out another important lesson. even if Xiangyong’s life before seemed ‘not ideal’, maybe even being a loser is still better than being completely forgotten. when Xiangyong made his wish, he technically solved his problems, but the cost is now he feels alone and empty because everyone has forgotten him. the important question here is that: would you rather live a life without problems but with no meaningful people by your side, OR would you rather face the problems in your life anyway, but with important people around you who make you feel like life is worth fighting for? cause even if things are hard, at least having these people gives your life meaning and support. it shows that a 'good' life isn’t just about having a life without obstacles or struggles, it’s also about having the people around you that are meaningful to you, that makes life bearable and worth fighting for amidst all the problems. it’s important to have meaningful connections with others to help you get through difficult things in life. because even if you solve one problem, another problem will definitely come again anyway. so yeah, I feel like it teaches us that, even if things are bad and difficult, if you have these people around you (family, friends, lovers, etc.), you can get through anything, because they give you strength and support to go on. kinda like that. and having no one meaningful by your side is far more painful than facing any hardships in life, because at least when you have people around you, you don’t face those hardships alone. the shooting star incident made us able to make these comparisons.
so to sum it up, i completely disagree with you, because by removing the shooting stars thing, it would literally remove all these important life lessons the series is trying to teach us or want us to ponder about. the shooting star incident is NOT just some useless tool to move the story forward. it literally gives us a ‘what-if’ scenario where we can reflect and rethink things before wishing for life to change magically. for me personally, it has emotional depth that can drive personal growth and make you appreciate life more. it reminds you to appreciate more the human connections you have with the important people in your life, and to appreciate the people you have those meaningful connections with.
and oh, as for the IG post you mentioned on producer Sammy account, i think the photo of Jed with the facial hair is actually for a completely different, new project, not a time jump for this series. but maybe you can give me the link so i can check? maybe there is something i haven't seen yet.
Okay, basically we need to really tune in to EP 8, because it seems like a lot more interesting things are gonna happen!
this series relies more on the emotional storytelling/narrative. and it is more about character development as a person, than solely just romance. so, yeah, we know why. and also, this is a more adult-themed story about family and life and hometown. this is not the typical university or school or mafia/dark theme, that would cater more to BL fans. this is Fantasy BL which is not that common, but for me it's very heart-warming and comforting, though it's quite mundane (for me, that's the charm. but it might be boring for some people), so maybe why it doesn't sell as well.
i think a lot of people watch BL to get that thrill either from the sweet & cute moments or from the spicy intense stuffs idk. but i truly appreciate the authenticity of this story and how fresh this feels compared to a lot of BLs nowadays. idc if most BL fans cannot appreciate it. i am just glad that it is liked by people who can truly appreciate it.
tbh from the comments here, i am suspecting that most of the viewers and people who love this series is from a more mature audience lol probably people in their 20s/30s/40s. cause some of these issues are more relatable as adult as you grow up.
