I posted my previous comment before I watched the final episode "Demons End, Rising Thunder". My comment was a very positive one, but in this one I feel a need to rant a bit. I have 2 things to say: 1. the most important thing, the episode was excellent. And hopefully this doesn't count as a spoiler 😠but the ending strongly implies the story is not over yet. Has anyone heard anything about a potential season 2? Is it planned? And 2. the synopsis for the episode on IMDB and Prime Video contains a massive spoiler! As I said previously, I never read the source material so the spoiler in the description was not cool and that's putting it lightly. Seriously guys, who in their right mind thinks "X defeats Y in a final showdown" is an acceptable description?! The rest of the episodes have fairly vague synopses so why the hell did they spoil the final episode in such a lame way? To make things even worse, it's a DOUBLE spoiler 🤡 but I'll refrain from explaining why because that would just spoil things for users on here
Correct if I'm wrong but the audience is supposed to EXPERIENCE the payoff, NOT read it in a metadata description before they choose to play the episode. 🤦
I'm quite frustrated because the people who wrote the earlier episode descriptions understood the balance that is needed. So why did they abandon it at the most important moment?!
And such crap is not a minor thing, it really affects the experience. Negatively! A synopsis of a finale episode that flattens the anticipation is like some kind of sick joke. Unacceptable.
Hi everyone. Firstly, I made an account on here just to sing the praises of Go Ayano's stellar performance as Serizawa. The portrayal is absolutely next level, it's actually difficult to put into words without sounding unhinged. But I can try. Zero spoilers in my comment.
Go Ayano is the real deal. IMO he's the star of the show. It's quite an incredible feat because Serizawa is... the antagonist.
Btw just in case someone misreads my intentions. I’m not trying to diminish other performances at all because I think the whole cast did a superb job. But Go Ayano just comes in and does what he does best, which is apparently steal EVERY SINGLE scene he's in. If the dude oozed any more charisma, he wouldn't be human anymore. What else can I say besides "chapeau bas". 🫡
Regarding the show itself, I'm not familiar with the manga that Song of the Samurai is based on. So I'm unable to comment whether it's a faithful adaptation. All I can say is this: it's worth watching solely for 1. ridiculously good fight scenes and 2. the inevitable Serizawa Kamo.
To be transparent. I do admit I haven't watched many Japanese dramas. In fact I believe the only other one I've seen in recent years was Informa. I mean pure Japanese productions. Shogun for example was an American production, so it doesn't count in this case. But my gawd, am I grateful for stumbling upon this gem of a show and being able to witness Go Ayano's performance.
