Why do I feel like this drama is being targeted by so much negative PR? 😭
This drama deserves far more credit for its storyline and acting. Honestly, I feel like many people telling others to drop it are judging it too harshly instead of appreciating what it actually offers.
Everyone knows this drama faced financial problems, and yes, the editing in some episodes was choppy. Some scenes needed more time, detail, and development. I completely understand those criticisms. But despite all these problems, the drama still managed to deliver a genuinely engaging story filled with suspense, revenge, emotional conflicts, and excellent performances from the cast.
YAN RUI and XEI SHU especially deserve extra recognition for their acting! Both of them did a really good job portraying their characters. The performances deserve to be appreciated rather than overlooked because of the drama's production issues.
And honestly, I don't understand all the complaints about the ending! For me, the ending made sense. The revenge was fulfilled, the characters who deserved to die met their ends, and the sisters and the main leads received their happy endings. What more were people expecting?
I especially don't understand why so many people are complaining about the second male lead getting a happy ending with the second Xei sister.
Think about it: after Yan Rui and Qingyuan saved each other during the bandit attack, the second male lead's decision to follow Qingyuan for marriage only reinforced the fact that he was becoming an obstacle between the main couple. The feelings between Yan Rui and Qingyuan were already there, and his actions added another layer to their relationship.
Meanwhile, the second Xei sister had loved him since childhood, and his parents had already accepted her as the family's future daughter-in-law. She wasn't some irredeemably evil character who deserved to die or have her life completely ruined. Why shouldn't she have the opportunity to find happiness, too?
And let's talk about Xei Shu! His ending was fitting because of what he had done to Qingyuan's mother. His death by fire felt like an appropriate conclusion to his storyline. The death of the old Madam Xei was also meaningful because she was the person who helped create the disaster that destroyed so many lives.
I think people are overlooking one of the most important parts of the story: Xei Shu wasn't always the villain he eventually became.
When he first returned to Hengtan after his examination with Shenrun's father, he had fallen in love with Qingyuan's mother. At that point, he wanted to work alongside Shenrun's father to improve the lives of ordinary people. He wasn't introduced as an inherently evil person from the very beginning.
The old Madam Xei played a major role in shaping his downfall and creating the circumstances that allowed so much evil to flourish. Understanding this background makes the story more tragic because it shows how ambition, manipulation, and the influence of the wrong people can corrupt someone over time.
That's what makes the story interesting to me. It's not simply about good people versus bad people. It's about how people change, how revenge destroys lives, and how the choices people make lead to their eventual downfall.
Yes, the drama had flaws. Yes, the editing could have been better, and some storylines deserved more screen time. But imperfect production doesn't automatically mean a bad story.
I wish people would look beyond the editing issues and appreciate the writing, the character development, the suspense, the revenge, and especially the acting.
For me, this drama deserved more recognition than it received. ❤️
Sometimes, I feel like people are so focused on criticizing a drama that they forget to appreciate the good things it actually accomplished.
