the story is so warm and wholesome, and there are no sexual scenes. it’s genuinely exactly the kind of show i love. i’m honestly so mad at myself for only watching it now when my coworker has been telling me to watch it since it came out in 2020. but oh well, better late than never, right? i would love to experience watching it for the first time again
overall, i think this was pretty much perfect. there are a few scenes that make me cringe so badly that i have to skip them, although i can’t help laughing at them too. especially whenever kurosawa starts imagining things about adachi. yeah, i’ve had to skip those scenes multiple times lol, sorry. and the tsuge and minato scenes… i just NOT into them, so i ended up skipping those too
i’ve watched pretty much the entire cherry magic franchise now, except for the thai version and the musical because hey, i’m kind of picky when it comes to visuals, sorry not sorry lol
i have to say, the japanese live action is definitely my favorite out of all of them. even though i’m usually not a fan of live action adaptations, cherry magic (and semantic error) are the exceptions for me. i mean, the visuals, the chemistry between the two actors, all the little details… everything is just so beautiful! one of the reasons i actually prefer it over the anime is because kurosawa feels so much more yearning and pining here. imagine being in love with someone for SEVEN YEARS!!
all men should take notes from kurosawa, especially when it comes to being a green flag and respecting consent. that man is simply the best. he should’ve held a seminar fr
they also toned him down quite a bit here (even though he’s still a freak lmao), and i’m honestly glad they did. i like that they didn’t make him exactly like his manga or anime counterpart. they have their own charm for me :)
the chemistry between the two actors is absolutely incredible. considering this was akaso and machida’s first bl, they were both amazing! the only thing that bothered me a little was that i sometimes felt akaso’s emotional expressions and eye acting can be a little stiff… i know adachi is supposed to be less expressive, but idk, sometimes it still felt like something was missing
that said, he’s incredibly talented, especially when he’s voice over his mind in here. i’ve watched some of akaso’s other dramas after cherry magic, and i can definitely see how much his acting has improved and developed since then!
as for machida… i have to say, he was PERFECT. (in the same tone as all those toyokawa people) i really loved his ad-libs and all his little microexpressions. at one point i literally asked my friend if he was bi irl (yeah ik he’s married irl)
anyway, that’s it. i think this is such a really good bl, whether it has kiss scenes or not. you can already feel the romance between them just by watching the way they look at and interact with each other. if there had been a kiss, i’d definitely consider it a nice bonus, and of course i’d be happier to see even a small kiss shown clearly on screen. but that doesn’t mean we should blame either of the actors or the production team for not having one
i think why tsuge and minato, who are the 2nd couple, were given kissing scene (where's people always salty about it) is because of the difference between them in the nature of their relationship. tsuge and minato felt like they were rushing into things, which is why i think they wanted to give them a kiss so their relationship would feel more established and make it clear that they were really together. we don’t need that for kurosawa and adachi. their hearts had already chosen each other from the very beginning

as a final note: i’m 33 now and still a virgin, so where the hell are my magic powers and my kurosawa??😂

anyway, i absolutely loved your review, especially your interpretation of the difference between “liking” men and women. it honestly made me think about the drama in a much broader way, rather than just seeing it as a cute and fluffy gay romance, thank you!
