Title Where the Mask Ends Spoiler
The following post may contain spoilers for some viewers! ⚠️

First of all, the theory that Acho and Weirao are twins! 👀

If you’ve been following the series up to Episode 12, you might remember a scene where Weirao’s aunt says:

“My father and I were twins, but I was never blessed with the ability to have children. That’s why I’ve always treated you like my own child.”

From this dialogue, we can assume that the twin gene runs in their family, which raises the possibility that Acho and Weirao might be twins, too!

BUUUUT… there’s another theory out there! 💀

Remember when a maid tried to escape the mansion to tell Weirao’s maternal grandmother something, but Weirao pushed her off a cliff?!

When they brought the maid back, she was barely alive and couldn’t speak anymore. She eventually passed away.

Nowww, a lot of people believe that the maid was trying to reveal a HUGE secret:

That Weirao is actually the one living under Acho’s identity! 👀

Wait, WHAT?!

According to this theory, the two girls aren’t actually sisters but cousins!

In other words, Weirao is the daughter of the aunt, while Acho is the biological daughter of Weirao’s aunt’s brother.

But why would anyone come up with such a theory in the first place?! 🤔

Well, we saw that when Weirao was a child, her aunt took her out somewhere, and… she got kidnapped!

So, there’s a possibility that the two babies were switched around that time and that their true identities are completely different from what we’ve been led to believe!

On top of that, we know that Weirao’s maternal grandmother is currently trying to uncover Acho’s true parentage, which makes this theory even more intriguing! 👀

Now we just have to wait and see what secret is really hiding behind all of this and which of these theories comes closest to the truth! 😂🔥

In episode 9, Yu Jinxuan’s words made me so sad:

“Be honest with yourself about your feelings. Once you let someone slip away, you may lose them for good.”

I don’t think he wants to revenge but he do have mixed feelings he is also discovering those feelings for the…
Exactly! 😭 I think what makes his character so heartbreaking is that he probably doesn’t even understand himself yet. He’s spent so much of his life suppressing his emotions and surviving in an environment where vulnerability was probably seen as a weakness that he doesn’t know what to do with the feelings he’s developing for her.

And I agree that falling for her won’t magically erase his past trauma. She’s slowly bringing out a side of him that he might not even have known existed, but unlearning all those defense mechanisms is going to take time. I also think that’s why his actions and words contradict each other so much. He’s feeling things he can’t explain, and instead of expressing them, he falls back on the only ways he’s ever learned to protect himself.

Honestly, I feel like his character development could be one of the most interesting parts of this story. I just hope the writers give him enough depth and don’t reduce his growth to simply falling in love with her. I want to see him discover who he is beyond all the pain, resentment, and emotional walls he’s built around himself. 🥹

In episode 8, I just realized that his feelings for Pingjun are even more complicated than I thought! I mean, I genuinely can’t tell whether he wants to love her or get revenge on her! 😭

I honestly feel so sorry for this man. :(

And I can’t help thinking that all those political intrigues have made him so emotionally repressed that he no longer knows how to express his feelings, and all that comes out is anger.

So, I’ve watched it up to the end of episode 4.

I simultaneously want to preserve Cheng Lei’s character and also want to suffocate him just to wipe that nerve-wracking smirk off his face! 😭

So far, I can definitely say it’s worth watching.

I also hope the story continues to deliver and gives us a proper ending—not a happy utopia, but not an angst-filled tragedy either.
