One of the best
If you're looking for a truly great Thai drama that is gritty, realistic and doesn't water down reality of that time period behind more modern sensibilities, this is it!
The production values make it like you're in 1969 Thailand. You can almost feel the heat, the smells of smoky cafes and pool rooms, and feel the tense political atmosphere/urgency of all of SE Asia during that time. Like many Thai filmmakers, this production draws you into this world like you're observing it all firsthand.
The characters are not perfect. They're believable, human and not always likable. They have conflicting agendas and make both good and bad choices. They can be irritating at times but you start to see their motivations as complex subplots develop.
Further, this story isn't always clean and nice. Characters you love get hurt and die. That is how life is and we see it all happen in this complicated story. It doesn't all end up a bed of roses for all the good people and some the bad ones go unpunished. That's reality and it's powerful.
I hope other BL makers see this production as setting a very high bar for the entire industry. This drama has been one of the greatest ones ever presented to date because it addresses a lot of issues real LGBT people have faced as well as showing the political realities many nations are currently facing. And, it's done that in a very nicely crafted production that feels and looks vintage and true to the era.
My only gripe is that I REALLY want to see more of this and see more of these characters. And, I confess, I absolutely fell hard for the Krailert and Naran coupling (stole the show) and very much want to see a lot more of their storyline a future series.
Congratulations to all participants in this truly outstanding production. You didn't just hit it out of the park; you blasted it into orbit!
