the thing is you maniac is SO one dimensional😭😭 the fact that you genuinely think this is some deeply layered…
and there’s absolutely nothing inherently wrong with a cliche story. i LOVE cliche stories and have rated multiple stories with overdone tropes and characterizations 10/10. it all depends on execution!! my issue is acting like this particular series is somehow above criticism because apparently it’s just too complex for people to understand when it’s not even complex. that feels incredibly disingenuous and honestly just makes me become more critical.

also, the reason they’re “hating on” wan isn’t just because the show wants us to think he’s being randomly targeted😭 it’s specifically because of his lack of professionalism AND because they’re looking for any excuse they can use to push him out. renji literally tells wan that they don’t care whether he meant to punch him or not, they’re going to use the situation to bury him. that is the point. they’re taking the punching incident and blowing it completely out of proportion because it gives them the perfect justification to get rid of wan, especially now that he’s become so popular that he’s starting to overshadow the main lead. the different ceos constantly pushing their own agendas and using these situations to benefit themselves is part of the commentary on the entertainment industry. it’s not random drama that came out of nowhere. and the way they treat wan compared to renji is ALSO intentional. renji gets away with things because he has powerful backing and comes from a privileged, well-connected background, while wan doesn’t have that same protection. the double standard is part of what the show is trying to say about nepotism and power in the industry. there is a lot of subtext here😭 you can criticize the execution if you don’t like it bc they definitely aren’t perfect, but it makes me think you’re missing what the show is actually trying to convey about how the entertainment industry uses scandals and manufactured narratives to control people. hope i helped clear up some of the misunderstandings,,, if you still have anything else bothering you about it i can try to explain!!!

they're literally satirizing the way BL companies can reduce actors to predetermined top and bottom archetypes (o the talent scout immediately labeling him as the perfect bottom is the joke because that's exactly the stereotyping the show is criticizing. i really don't understand how people are watching this and missing the satire. they're giving us a peek behind the curtain at the standards actors are expected to fit into. and the whole point is that these roles are constructed and imposed on performers before they even get the chance to define themselves. it's meta commentary.

yes james acting is absolutely amazing, but we also have to remember the massive experience gap here. james is…
at times i forget it’s even james😭 you know an actor is talented when they can make you genuinely despise the character they’re playing. honestly one of the greatest compliments i can give an actor is that i fucking hate their villain. having a character as believable as nine makes the show 10x better i’m so serious

As much as I wasn't going to ever come back and review this show because of the nasty comments fb fans made about…
i really do understand where you’re coming from, but have you actually looked at the written reviews of mr fanboy? because this show has been getting review bombed by you maniac fans for weeks. there are tons and tons of alternate accounts repeatedly rating mr fanboy a 1 while rating you maniac a 10, with no other shows rated on those accounts. yet somehow it’s always you maniac fans constantly coming over here to lecture us and guilt us about how mean we are😭😭💔we haven’t been camping in the you maniac comments complaining about your fans review bombing mr fanboy so i don’t see the point. i get it can be infuriating but please try not to take it out on us because both fandoms have their bad sides!!

unpopular opinion but James is probably the best actor on this show no shade
yes james acting is absolutely amazing, but we also have to remember the massive experience gap here. james is a senior actor who has been acting for a long time and has already been in multiple shows. this is auausave’s first show as a main lead and ryujinpatji’s first show as the second couple. it would honestly be a little weird if james WASN’T the strongest actor on the show haha

no it never stops😭😭😭one of my biggest irks when it comes to acting is when actors are so focused on looking…
you can absolutely be a flirtatious playboy without smirking in literally every scene. william is a great actor it’s just that sometimes the expression feels a little overused. he can be a flirtatious playboy and still have more variety in his expressions esp in scenes that don’t call for the smirk🫶🫶🫶it’s nothing against him and it doesn’t ruin the show for me, just a small criticism!!

Genuine question from someone who stopped watching after Ep1: Did the excessive smirking stop?Trying to decide…
no it never stops😭😭😭one of my biggest irks when it comes to acting is when actors are so focused on looking attractive while delivering lines that it starts pulling me out of the character. i feel like they’re acting the idea of being attractive instead of acting the scene sometimes to the point where they completely butcher the character and sound like they’re forcing their voice. just act naturally you don’t need to be manufacturing sexy faces it just doesn’t look like something a human would do and your character can’t be smirking the entire time. it’s not realistic just say your lines like a normal person and get immersed into the characters thoughts. it’s a rookie mistake but very common for actors.

And why is Dean so annoying again in this episode? He wasn't like this after they reunited in the novel. I don't…

First things first: the product placement is strong with this one. Seriously the whole episode is like a giant…
And why is Dean so annoying again in this episode? He wasn't like this after they reunited in the novel. I don't understand the point of adding this episode… it makes Dean's character so inconsistent. I feel like Dean's mindset is still similar to previous episodes, but in the novel, Dean had already started to change. He was hesitant to face their relationship when his sister asked about it, and after his sister's advice, Dean finally understood. This episode starts with the two of them reconciling normally, but then it adds such bizarre plot developments... It feels similar to previous episodes... So much of the story has progressed, yet they're still including this kind of plot... I also don't see the necessity of adding this blind date. They should really make the characters and plot flow smoothly. If the next episode goes back to the original storyline, then what was the meaning of this episode's plot? It's like I watched it for nothing. kind of like dangling a carrot and saying ooo look at this development and then snatching it away at the very last second while saying hahaha none of that mattered anyways we’ll just go back to how we all felt last episode

Oh I was feeling weird esp. about the latest ep, didn't realy feel it and that not feeling became stronger and…
Episode five feels like a product just to advance the emotional line of the side couple, and it seems like an original addition. Aside from the doctor's character, the development of all other characters felt ineffective. They should have pushed the plot forward more. Also, while Moth is portrayed as popular, the reason for his popularity isn't effectively shown during conversations, making it seem abrupt when many people later choose him. Although this was likely done to contrast Dean's player-like behavior, which wouldn't earn genuine affection, this segment still felt incomplete. The biggest flaw in this episode was that it felt like the plot was driving the characters, rather than the characters driving the plot. In this episode, aside from Dean’s slight softening, there’s not much change in the main couple’s emotional dynamics. Moth is still tough on the outside but soft inside. The main couple’s personalities are already complex, and the plot twists feel a bit abrupt—why not add more psychological narration? I want to understand the world of this couple too 😭. This episode really shows it’s from a new director… This episode feels like a Chinese drama, just dragging out the runtime🙃🙃😭 i really really really want to like this.. i think i just had way too high of expectations and am too critical of things i expected more from ugh

I feel like the script wasn't polished carefully enough. Many scenes just move the plot along without much depth. Those of us who've read the novel might understand the reasons behind the developments, but viewers who haven't will just find things happening out of the blue, like relationships forming inexplicably. Shouldn't there have been more plot development or psychological exploration leading up to those intimate moments? It seems the production team is relying on the intimate scenes and chemistry between williamest to attract viewers, rather than developing other plot points in detail.

sad but inevitable. when a fandom gets super big toxicity just infects it slowly. i love william and est but from the moment i saw mr fanboy and you maniac were airing on the same day i knew some shit like this was going to happen. it’s such a common practice in fandom spaces😭i’m huge into anime, so i’m unfortunately very used to watching series i love get review bombed but it still sucks every time it happens
