Title Reply 1988
No, you don't. There are a few references from the other series that you will miss, but that's about it. However,…
Awesome, thank you!

Do I need to watch Reply 1997 and Reply 1994 before I watch this one? This drama looks amazing, but I don't want to start watching it and be confused if I haven't watched the other ones first. Thanks~~~

I know a lot of people hate this drama but honestly, it's one of my all-time favorites and it never fails to bore me each time I rewatch it. The romance is FLIPPING ADORABLE and the chemistry between the leads is off the charts! Park Bo Young and Park Hyung Shik are two of my favorite actors, and their acting here was stunning. The comedy is the kind that has you rolling on the floor laughing so hard that tears are streaming down your face--- to put it simply, its GREAT. My only complaint with this drama is the two separate plot lines that don't merge until the end (and even then, only slightly), and the gangsters can get annoying at times. I thought that the writers could have done a better job tying everything together, but I still enjoyed each of the plot lines: one is heavy and the other is light and comedic. I thought that they balanced each other nicely and made for a lovely romantic comedy that offers some of the darker plots that I like without making it all melodramatic. Both plots were wonderful, and the romance is SO SO SO SATISFYING-- so much better than a lot of other romance dramas I have watched.
Don't let the hate comments stop you from watching this. It's really, really good, and I'm so glad that I ignored what other people had to say and just watched it. I actually rewatched this, and I rarely--pretty much NEVER-- rewatch dramas. It's just one of those dramas that people either love it or they hate it, but you've gotta be the one to decide that.
