For me it’s “ Kinnporsche” that sets the bunchmark. They raised my standards very very high I couldn’t…
I feel you. I barely watch Thai BLs anymore. They still have the stereotypical, cliche plots and hire actors only for face value, not talent. At least put them through proper workshops before filming. Most of them are amateurs and it shows. You don't always have to write complicated stories to make an impact, even the simplest story can make an impression if it's produced with passion and effort. Thailand seems to operate like a BL factory with default settings that never want to take any chances.
I really love this series. Kohei's struggle to express his emotions to Taichi is so touching. Even though he's worried about overwhelming Taichi, it's great to see Taichi opening up to him more each day. It's clear that Kohei has romantic feelings for Taichi, but it seems like Taichi might feel the same way too after episode 8. He's just not there yet. Dealing with unrequited feelings is tough.
J-BLs have a special way of portraying human emotions in their stories, and it really resonates with me. The simple storyline carries so much emotion, and the lead actors do a fantastic job bringing their characters to life.
Both Chinese adaptations in 2016 and 2023 were brilliant in their unique ways. The 2016 version was more explicit, whereas the 2023 version smartly navigated between platonic and romantic love to avoid censorship. Both versions had great chemistry between the leads, and the actors were fantastic. However, ironically, they left us hanging after raising our expectations.
Thailand has a big opportunity to make things right and bring closure to this story that was abandoned twice by its country of origin.
We're off to a decent start, although I feel like the actor playing Hero looks too old for a high schooler. I know this is just fiction and we shouldn't think too deeply, but now that I have found out the age of the actor who plays Pop, I'm not sure how they are going to navigate the intimacy in this story. If they stayed true to the source material, personally it'll be off-putting for me to watch it. He really is a minor in real life! Both leads have quite the age gap too. I don't know what the age of consent in Thailand is to hire a minor for a story like this, but they should've at least gotten someone in their early 20s if they were going to be faithful to the original story (*Insert flashbacks of Gu Hai & Bai Luo here*). Then again, this absolutely won't be an issue if this is going to be loosely based and is a subtle version like "Stay With Me". But even "Stay With Me" leads were closer in age and, though in their 20s in real life, did a pretty convincing job at playing high schoolers.
I like the chemistry of the Thai actors so want to give them the benefit of the doubt. It seems like the international viewers are only getting the TV version and the uncut is not available yet. This is also another reason that makes me question the possibility of them having NC scenes. All I hope is they have done this series wisely so it won't cause any trouble for the cast.
I like the premise and it's great to see Charles back; he sings, which is even better. Even though Michael's story was short in MTYL, he showed such promising talent. I'm glad he got the lead role here. Taiwan really has the best OSTs in their BLs. I feel like this show is also going to have some great songs. Love the ending OST already. Love the actors; they have great chemistry. Yes, this plot has been recycled so many times, but they've found their unique way to tell it again. I'm looking forward to seeing how it unfolds!
I find it jarring to switch from Japanese, Taiwanese, and Korean BLs to Thai BLs. It should be about prioritizing quality over quantity. Even though they have abundant resources and fairly skilled actors, I'm puzzled as to why they struggle to produce compelling storylines. ITSAY sets the benchmark for Thai BLs in my opinion, because if they can achieve that level of quality, I believe they have the potential to consistently deliver.
I binged this series but ended up skipping parts and getting bored midway through. At one point, I thought it was softcore corn. However, the intimacy coordinators deserve credit for their work. Thai BLs are hit-or-miss for me, which is why I rarely watch them anymore. The only character who left an impression on me was portrayed by the child actress. She has a promising future.
I understand that many BLs are based on novels, but at least creators should draw inspiration from well-crafted BLs from other countries or books with compelling storylines. Provide these actors with material that challenges and improves their skills and gives the audience something memorable. Instead of churning out mediocre content in bulk, investing in a few high-quality productions could leave a lasting impression.
So, I watched this BL in one sitting and I have to say that it's been a while since I finished a Thai BL series without losing interest. I rarely come across Thai BLs that keep me engaged, and given that ITSAY sets a high standard for me, I haven't found anything that comes close to it.
This series was a pleasant surprise, and I found the chemistry between the main couple adorable. Although I haven't seen any of their previous work, I think they did a decent job. Specifically, I felt that the actor who played San did a great job portraying his 100+-year-old grandpa character. I did skip chunks of each episode, but the story was easy to understand. There were some cringy eye-roll moments, but overall I thought the plot was fresh and unique, at least it delivered better than GMMTV.
I'm planning to check out IFYLITA next because I didn't have time to watch it before, but I've heard good things about it, and since both this series and that have similar themes, it got me interested.
I appreciate it when writers and producers try something different and allow actors to explore different characters, rather than sticking to conventional cliché storylines. Thailand has so much to offer to the BL genre being a mass producer in Asia. But when it comes to storytelling, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea excel in quality over quantity, unlike Thailand.
The plot is engaging cz it leaves me with more questions than answers after each episode, so I HAVE to await the next one.
However, I'm still confused about the timelines. We keep switching between Great's future previews and the present. It seems like Great can see more than just the next 4 minutes into the future. He gets the vision of another patient who's like him, predicts that he's going to sleep with Tyme, and sees that Tyme will ask for his forgiveness. This contradicts the explanation of the 4-minute concept, where he is only supposed to see the next 4 minutes. I'm trying to understand how he can see beyond that limited timeframe. Tyme clearly approached Great with ulterior motives, as confirmed in episode 3 when he willingly removed his face mask, we'll hopefully learn his intentions next week.
(Side note: How did the white plushie that Great gave Tyme end up back at his apartment? Is it a minor editing mistake we need to overlook, or maybe they got more plushies than just two? Or is it again something to do with the timeline?? Bahaha since the realities are still vague even the smallest details make me question them)
Not very much convinced about Tonkla and Win yet given how fast they're moving, but I hope it'll turn into something genuine. Tyme and Great have a lot to work on, they don't know enough about each other to get into a relationship, I want to see more build-up not just them getting into bed next scene.
I'm hooked now that we're 3 episodes in. I just hope that the upcoming episodes have strong writing and a good plot twist. I'm looking forward to seeing the mystery element being used effectively. It's not every day that you get a BL that goes beyond clichés and stereotypes, so I really hope it works out. Fingers crossed!
This series would have been at best 8 episodes long. Gemini and Fourth really impressed me in "My School President," especially Fourth with his natural acting. Even in "Moonlight Chicken," they did exceptionally well. It's disappointing that this series falls far short of their previous series. While the Thai version has adapted the story their own way, the plot feels bland and disappointing, and they've dragged the series on for too long. I think they are simply stretching the show to meet the 12-episode standard. GMMTV always seem to find a way to screw up their BL shows. It's such a shame to see the talent of these young actors going to waste when there is so much potential to be tapped into.
I just finished watching episode 2 and I found it confusing but intriguing at the same time. It's still early in the series and I'm trying to figure out the main plot. So far, we know that Great can see 4 minutes into the future, his family is involved in some shady shit, Korn is two-timing and is fully involved in shady stuff, and Tonkla doesn't deserve Korn. He might find happiness with Win. Tyme finally interacts with Great and seems interested in him, but he might have some ulterior motives. His spy is the curly-haired chick who works at the illegal business rink managed by Korn. There might be a connection between his girlfriend leaving him and the shady family stuff. It's all still very vague at this point. Changes in the future happen based on the consequences of Great's actions during those 4 minutes. We saw Tonkla hit someone to death at the beginning of episode 2. Dome wasn't shown after he was taken to the hospital, but it wasn't indicated whether he died or not. We know that someone died, and it was Tonkla's brother. Maybe Dome was supposed to die that night if Great didn't interfere with Title. There seem to be different timelines, or they're not being shown to the audience chronologically yet, hence the confusion. I'm left hanging, but I love the build-up. I hope they will lead us to some good plot twists after all this mystery. I really need to watch a BL with a solid plot, something that does not just focus on romance or cliches. This series is very promising and seems to be heading toward success. Hopefully, it delivers just as the suspense it's showing.
This had all the cliche K-Drama tropes and I didn't mind it. We have a FML who goes back to her hometown after failing in the city and a ML who's still not over the FML even after a decade. A dumb ex and a villainess who the ex cheated with. After all, it made me realize how fictional this is and that it is nearly impossible to have the kind of life the FML has! How in the world that a man like Yong Pil even exist IRL?! That man is too good to be true and not just a green flag but a whole frekn ecosystem. So yeah, this was honestly a fantasy drama, not realistic, but fully enjoyable for a happy and easy watch!
Trash? Describe Trash, i have been watching bl for the 7 to 8 months and i have literally watched almost all of…
No hard feelings! I just fail to connect with most of their BLs. Most of them have the same recycled plot and there's no value addition at all. I'm in my late 20s and for the longest time what I've seen from their BLs is the same high school/college theme. It's not that I don't enjoy their fluffy stuff, for instance, I liked My School President and I thought that Gemini and Fourth did a great job. I feel bad for all the potential that is been wasted when you have the resources and the talent to tell a great story. Nadao, the company that made ITSAY was known for its quality content. And ITSAY never had a complicated plot either, it too was based on two teenage high school boys, but why it was so brilliant is how they developed the plot, acted, and shot the series. The overall cinematography was stunning! Hence why we still can't move on and take it as the standard for other Thai BLs. Nadao was one of the only Thai production houses that put quality over quantity when it came to BLs. GMMTV is just quite the opposite. Their commercial interests are higher than their love for the art. At least that's what I feel. BOC seemingly is trying to do a good job and I hope they will deliver. When it comes to storytelling I need more substance to the story, that shows the writers have tried and producers have put effort!
It's as if you spoke my mind. Didn't watch anything other than Cherry Magic Thailand (and that too cuz it's got…
OMG, yessss exactly! What I meant by trash is that only a handful of them ever focus on a good plot, the rest is only there for commercial profit and nothing more. I'm still bummed they closed down Nadao cz that company genuinely cared about the content they made. Most of the BLs GMMTV makes are only high in quantity but not quality, there are rare occasions where ones like Not Me or Moonlight Chicken meet expectations but the rest are just bland and forgettable. I never moved on from ITSAY cz that drama was brilliant. Not just as a BL but in general as a series. K-BLs have upped their game in that case and J-BLs are also the same. Taiwan never fails (Unknown kept my emotions heightened and that's the feeling that Thai BLs fail to evoke) I'm 28, it's been so long since I've seen a Thai BL catering to adults/mature audiences. Almost all of their stuff is either high school or college-related. 4 minutes is giving me a pinch of hope and I'm going to hold on to it for the moment. I hope you and I will be able to talk about this in the future with satisfaction.
Interesting first episode. I haven't watched any Thai BLs since Cherry Magic came out last year. I don't know why almost all of their recent ones are pure trash. Everyone's giving prominence to NC scenes rather than the plot. No Thai BL still has been able to surpass the quality and perfection that ITSAY laid in my opinion, I always will have that as my standard to measure all other BLs. This has an interesting premise, they didn't reveal a lot of story in the first episode, I mean it's fair and keeps the audience curious. A smart move I'd say. The cast is delivering, everyone's seemingly doing a good job and I want to give this the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully, this won't disappoint and will give us something to keep talking about afterward. Bible and Jes have the potential to be the next trending onscreen BL couple!
I thoroughly enjoyed this hidden gem. I binged it and loved every second of it. I'm a slow-burn trash, and this show nailed it. The entire cast was fantastic. The plot was emotional, and they didn't shy away from the typical K-drama-style family drama, which continued until the last episode. But it's the kind of story that keeps you invested and rooting for the main characters to find relief from their miseries. Both YK and SK had great chemistry, and YK truly embodied his character exceptionally. I just wanted to hug the dude through the screen every time he appeared. SK's acting was also commendable; she clearly carried the family as the middle child. Even though I'm a year late to the show, I'm glad I found it and would love to see the two leads in another project together. Since this was a melodrama, they should definitely do a romcom next. Their chemistry was just perfect!
This is why I'm trash for slow burns. Slow-burn leads have the best chemistry. It may not be very physically intimate but the tension and the passion somehow is reflected perfectly. Lee Jun Ho is raising the bar so high for other K-drama male leads. That man is literally written by a woman. Can't wait to see how their Midnight Romance unfolds!
Finished it and gotta say it was one of the nicest C-dramas I've watched in a while. The plot was unique and realistic. The main leads' romance was very natural and touching. Even though it was an age-gap relationship both of them were quite understanding and supportive of each other and I AM SO GLAD it was one of the healthiest pairings on screen. They had great communication, no unnecessary drama or exes barging in, and even the second lead knew his boundaries so that we didn't have to sit through a cringy love triangle. I actually like the second lead and he turned out to be one of my favorite characters of the drama. The FL and he should get together for another project as they too have great chemistry. The main couple easily became one of my favorite C-drama couples as they had such natural chemistry. I usually do not watch many Chinese series as I find the whole damsel in distress, cutesy, clumsy girlfriend concept cringe. Especially when most of the FLs are always depicted as pure and helpless women who can't help but seem to fall into trouble and need a man to come to rescue them. One of the main things about Luo Na is that she is headstrong and direct. She helped Yu Cheng throughout and became his constant. The age gap was quite a bit between them but I think they showed their age-appropriate dynamics clearly. You could see that Yu Cheng was still a kid and Luo Na was the one who was directing him but that didn't affect their relationship in a bad way but helped shape it into something healthier and better. I love that they showed us great communication and dependability between them. Easily a feel-good drama. Very natural and unique plot. Two leads with palpable chemistry. Supporting cast was also great. Fully recommended, 8/10!
Okay so I'm in ep 19 and I had to stop mid-ep to write about Coach Wu Ze. Why do I always fall for the second leads???!!!! The FL and he should definitely do a drama together, even though they aren't the main couple in this they literally have so much chemistry. I do love the ML but he's still a kid. I mean it's understandable given he's so much younger than the FL but the second lead has so much charisma and the way he cares for the FL from afar breaks my heart. Not to mention the dude being a walking green flag. Overall the story is quite enjoyable and the main leads have natural chemistry. I shall come back to leave my complete review once I finish the series :)
I can't believe I had to fast-forward 15-minute episodes. I continued watching because it feels incomplete to abandon shows. I wasn't expecting anything serious out of this story anyway, only something lighthearted and cliché, but they took cliché and cringe to the next level. You really don't need a lot of material to give us a BL rom-com. For example, take J-BLs. They're cute, a little dramatic, cliché but with good acting and decent writing, they can literally work wonders! This was a disaster! There was no chemistry, no build-up between the leads, a horrible screenplay, cringe-acting, and a stale plot. How come nobody thought this was a very bad idea before execution?! I rate it 5/10 just for the sake of the dog!
Even for a low-budget production, you still need to put effort and money into bringing it to life. So, why not take it seriously and not just do it for the hype and trend? It baffles me how they came to an agreement to greenlight this project. There is no plot or direction, the acting is bad, and the overall execution is terrible. You have no excuse to give when there are BLs like the recently ended Gray Shelter which had similar production circumstances but was still able to deliver one of the most commendable stories of the year. Some might not agree with comparing this with it but you can't help but notice the huge difference in content quality despite the fact that they are created with similar resources.
For a low-budget short series, this one excelled in many parts. The acting was on point, they have raw chemistry. The story was complicated, with a lot of emotional baggage, 5 episodes weren't enough to flesh out everything. The ending is more or less open to any kind of interpretation which leaves the possibility for a season 2 easily. So I'd like to keep my hopes up. They definitely have more stories to tell. Hope they'll consider another season and get more budget. Woo Young caught my eye, he's really good, and he should appear in more dramas. Both he and Jae Bin have great chemistry. This was a great watch, definitely recommended if anyone likes some angsty, emotional story with two leads who have palpable chemistry.
