On More than Blue: The Series Apr 22, 2024
Heartfelt, bittersweet love letter of a series. I can't imagine a love like that. That eternal feeling of loving someone so much that your purpose for existing ceases when they're gone.
Loved all the other storylines that simultaneously ran with the main story.
Definitely a must-watch. A cry fest is guaranteed. But you will feel somewhat of a peacefulness after it ends. Marvelous cast, fantastic production, and a beautiful OST. This is going to be one of my favorite series from Taiwan. Kudos to the entire team for delivering a cinematic masterpiece!

I just finished binge-watching the last three episodes of this series, and it was a wild ride. From start to finish, it has been a beautiful journey. The plot is unique and realistic, the acting is brilliant, and the chemistry between the characters is palpable and natural. The music is also beautiful, and the overall result is a fine piece of art.

As someone who has read the novel by Priest, I think the producers did an excellent job of fleshing out WQ and XY's story. Some people might complain about the lack of delivery in intimate scenes, but I personally thought the way they showed it at the end was quite adequate and reasonable given the nature of their relationship. The novel was not nearly as romantic as the series was, so it's good that they stayed true to the character traits of the leads even in the aftermath and didn't give us any unrealistic depictions of their relationship.

This is a slow-burn, and every episode was well-paced and none was a filler. Some people didn't like Sang Pang at one point in the story, but I thought his character was one of the most caring characters to have been written.

The setting of the story is an Asian household, and their customs and beliefs are very different from the Western world. As the audience, we will understand how all of these come into play in this series, and at times it might even make us question them. Coming from Asia myself, I believe they showed a realistic narrative of it, and it is commendable.

The novel had many subplots and additional characters, which is why the series succeeded in excelling in selling the best and most important part of WQ and XY's story. I actually like that they kept the uniqueness of both pieces separately as it gave the story its own essence.

Overall, I give this series a 10/10, and it is the best BL entry from Taiwan for 2024. It's going to be an all-time classic, and it definitely deserves to bag all the awards. The cast was fantastic, and I couldn't ask for better leads than Chris and Kurt. They nailed their roles, and the screenwriters did an excellent job of evoking relatable emotions through their dialogues. The whole production team needs a standing ovation for giving us this cinematic masterpiece! Thank you for these beautiful 9 weeks of a rollercoaster of emotions, I shall greatly miss it!

This has a great plotline, raw acting, and natural chemistry among the leads. It's a crime to not let this story be told fully. It's literally ending next week and I feel like we just got started with the story. There's so much history in their lives the series can explore, giving us a flashback of how they grew up and what kinda trauma they had to deal with. I dunno why all the interesting and unique dramas don't get funded properly when you know it's an evident hit.

I dunno why I took so long to finally watch this movie. I always pushed it back whenever I thought of watching this and now I finally did. Never in my life, I have ever bawled my eyes out like that. Currently, my eyes look like puffer fish. I have no words to describe what kind of a cinematic masterpiece this is. The child actress blew my mind with her performance. Her bond with her father was the epitome of pure love. What an outstanding movie. One of the best and must-watch movies of all time. Just brilliant.

Bahahaha true dat!!! They have toned down Yuan's obsession into the lowest possible level in the series which is one of the wisest decisions they've made. I can't imagine how the people who pity him right now would feel if the novel Yuan made it to the series cz my guy was 100% determined to show Qian he was nowhere near wanting to be related to him in any brotherly mannerπŸ˜‚ At least the dude was smart enough to not let his intrusive thoughts win πŸ˜‚ I mean he was risking it all for the name of love! Props to Qian for raising him well or else he prolly would've ended up counting bars in jail!

Guys,I knew it.I am reading the novel again and yuan literally goes "once I used to think EVERYDAY that there…
His obsession with his brother was next level. I don't know if you could remember tho, there was a part where it's described how the love is so deep that XY wishes he could devour WQ's flesh and drink his blood! I was like, boiiii WTFFF πŸ˜†πŸ˜† He had such strong feelings that he couldn't understand whether it was love or hatred. It was very interesting to read about XY's inner turmoil and repressed feelings he couldn't show. It made him seem like a psychopath.

I am emotionally invested in this drama. It has been a while since such an intense BL story has come into play. I appreciate slow-burn stories and this one is the peak of slow-burns. It has the perfect blend of angst, jealousy, confusion, and love, with two main leads who hit it out of the ballpark.
In Episode 9, XY's unconditional love for WQ is solidified, but WQ finally realizes how strong it is in the most cruel way. The novel didn't depict their emotions this way, and I'm grateful that the producers took the artistic liberty to show it to the audience. When both XY and WQ were asking to be taken as the sacrifice instead of the other, it was evident that they didn't have an ounce of fear knowing the other person would be safe afterward.
Le Ge seems to genuinely admire WQ because of his determination, hard work, honesty, and respect for others. He saw that WQ would give himself over for XY, and that genuineness is something he hasn't seen among his underlings. So he kept his word. This grudge was something Hu wanted to be fulfilled, and I think Le Ge himself was disappointed in the end because of it. Even though it was unfortunate, I'm glad it gave some leeway for XY to narrow down WQ's platonic feelings.
Next week, we will see another revelation of unfortunate events, but I believe all of these hardships will lead us to one of the greatest love stories in the history of BLs!

K-BL comeback is so strong with this one. After back-to-back high school series, we're finally getting a mature story. I love the theme and the cinematography is fantastic. The actors already have great chemistry and their characters have lots of pent-up angst and trauma inside. We'll be seeing some intense raw emotions. I don't know why that seemingly good dramas only have a handful of episodes. This only has 5?! Like WHY?! I was preparing myself for at least 8-10 eps. This is so unfortunate.

One of the best things about this drama is how it takes its time to build up the story, the characters, and the overall emotions. I appreciate that they're taking the time to show us how WQ is slowly starting to experience a new side of XY and how XY has come to be at peace with his feelings toward WQ. Some people mentioned that episode 7 felt like a filler or slow, but I believe it was one of the important episodes of the series, laying the groundwork for the character changes in episode 8. We saw how both WQ and XY spent those four years apart and the effects it had on them. XY has returned more mature and a little cocky (he knows what he's doing..lol), and WQ is realizing his siblings are now adults. It's understandable that their relationship is going to be a slow burn because WQ has a hard shell, and no amount of sappiness is going to give him any newfound love cells. He needs time. I think the next episode will give WQ some sudden realizations about XY, which would make him think it should be better late than never.

I like this drama. A lot. Chemistry is fire. Mr. Robin, you've enticed me with your boyish charms. I wish we had more episodes. I'm not gonna dive too deep into the plot cz clearly there's not enough time to study their character complexities.

For example, Senpai comes across as an impetuous playboy who doesn't genuinely care for Miyata. However, after the whole family drama is revealed, I think he has been aloof to many things since he was a kid. The mother seems to be a bi*ch which may have led him to detach from emotional connections. He emits such sad boi vibes to me. It seems like Miyata is the only person he truly cares about, but he's sending mixed signals to Miyata and doesn't seem to take the relationship seriously, even though he claims to love Miyata. It feels like he's afraid of getting hurt or losing someone he genuinely cares for, so he has completely masked himself as the bad seed. I feel bad for Miyata tho, he doesn't deserve to be on the receiving end of all of this.

But of course, I know we'll get our happy ending, and of course, Sugimoto can respectfully eff off to the sunset with his bloody wine and of course, I shall develop withdrawal symptoms for a couple of days after this ends. And of course, I hope to see the leads again on another project if possible.

I watched this for the second time, gosh they were so cute together. I love the leads' chemistry. Even the second lead was good. I hope they'll be recast again for a project soon or we'll get a spinoff with the second lead. His story seemed to have a new beginning by the end of this drama.
Anyways, fully recommended for a great short watch. It's just like the title, a breeze of fluff and love. I especially liked the Do Hyun actor, he captured that first love's nervousness and shyness perfectly. Even Dong Wook's actor was good. That stoic, aloof personality suited him well. And they had the cutest chemistry together.

It was good for a short watch but the plot was meh. I usually expect more when it comes to K-BLs but this one definitely fell below average quality-wise.

I quite didn't like how both lead couples had one partner who was an absolute trash bag to the other. I mean I get the whole aesthetic with bad boys who bully the one they like but gosh both Tae Yi and Joo Ha were straight-up jerks to Se Heon and Do Yoon respectively. Tae Yi literally insults and assaults Se Heon in one of the most humiliating ways possible and my guy lets him sit next to him the day after as if nothing happened just the previous night. Tae Yi plays a bit of piano, and Se Heon joins in, both of them vibe together and all is good. WTF. Here I am fuming in my chair thinking why SH has little to no respect for himself. Boiiii if I were him I'd return the favor and give the dude the same kind of treatment he gave me. And about Joo Ha and Do Yoon, WTF again?!!!! JH literally says he's disgusted by DY and a little ignoring by DY and a walk down memory lane after getting punched by a few dudes, my guy suddenly has a revelation and now wants "limited" TLC from DY?!!! Make it make sense bro.

Bahahaha and we get a classic break-up scene. It was supposed to be this traumatic reason but I felt as if it's the dumbest reason for a break-up. You're literally tormenting this already depressed and moody dude who somehow opens up to you cz something that has to do with your brothers. This is why communication matters. Talk things out. Writers didn't even try there.

Anyways, all of these seem like unpopular opinions as the rating is so high for this drama but sorry to say that even though it was a happy ending I just couldn't get past the obvious discrepancies.
The acting was subpar, chemistry was okay but not the best. I personally liked the DY actor, he felt natural the most. Even the JH actor did well, he's good at being a jerk. The main leads were not too bad but they can improve a lot. The plot was just not plotting for me. If this was done right it was supposed to make me want to read the manhwa but if these are the characters of it, nope I don't think so.

Episode 7 confused me.... how much time passed since he went away and how did Lili become a model on the cover…
It's the little things that show how much time has passed. The whole episode was dedicated to showing how long WQ and XY were separated. If you've noticed the little plant in XY's room, the unread text messages in WQ's phone, or XY's height measurements on the wall, they all indicate the passage of time. It should be around 4 years, as XY also went for his graduate studies (a degree should take that much time too). Also, the height tabs have stopped from 2019, I think, and when XY returns it's 2023. So, yeah, 4 years. I think it's fair to assume that Lili must've worked hard during that time too, as she always wanted to pursue modeling since her high school days. Hence, she becoming a professional during that time.

P.S. If you want to read the translated text messages XY sent to WQ, someone has commented it down below. Actually, it clarifies the time too. You'd see XY wishing WQ for birthdays and New Year's every passing year.

BL producers TAKE NOTES! THIS IS HOW YOU DO A TIME JUMP. It's not where you separate them in one scene and cut to 5-6 years later in the next.
In my opinion, as the audience, we need to connect with the characters through their separation to understand how it's affecting them, whether it's meaningful or not. BLs are so quick to jump on intimate scenes these days that the quality of most productions has declined immensely. This episode was quite necessary for their characters to build more maturity and understanding. Some might think this was unnecessary or filler, but other series should also consider doing this, regardless of the genre, when they want to maintain the flow of the plot continuously. I wasn't bored for a single second. I was going through what WQ was going through during that half-hour episode, and believe me, the aesthetic was perfect. The screenplay is brilliant. It's amazing to see when a project is done with such perfection with zero to no mistakes. It was the little indications of how WQ was missing his brother, i.e. the unanswered text messages, keeping up with the height on the wall, cleaning the room, and people asking about XY or talking about him. I couldn't be happier when I saw how these minor things were coming into play. I can't praise this whole team enough for giving us a near-perfect BL in a long time to rant about like this. I haven't felt this much excitement in a while while watching a series.

This was a NO for me. Sorry Taiwan. When you guys have raised the bar so high with BLs like WBL, MODC, Red Balloon, YNEH, Crossing the Line,,,,we know the list goes on, and not to mention the currently airing show Unknown, this was just below average. I couldn't get into the story at all. The whole robot with a human trope somehow doesn't make any sense to me though it is purely fictional and just gives me the ick. They seemingly had chemistry but for a somewhat sci-fi BL, this was cringy.
