I think that she just did not imagine the secret to be so big... let's be honest we all keep secrets, especially in the beginning of the relationship, but how many of us carry such a dark secret? She probably thought it was something way simpler, and that would not interfere in their life.

But that's the thing about love. You can't love someone just because you want to. She said the 1- she's afraid of being hurt again (wich is perfectly understandable since the man she was dating for 2 YEARS completely fooled her) and 2- she doesn't want to be unfair to him, bc, at the present moment, she doesn't love him, so she would be taking a nice guy who truly loves her as a rebound fling.
