Yes, to my knowledge Croton is relying on volunteer subbers since I can add subtitles on the YT video, but they don't always post the subs when it's finished and there's not many people working on it. Unfortunately, what everyone else said is correct - Ni Ni and Chang Chen are not as popular overseas and are "movie actors" so there's not a big need for Croton to hire English subbers since they can rely on Chinese audiences for views. And I don't think Netflix will be picking this up. I did see comments below though that there was a FB page working on subbing it at a faster rate than on YT!

I'll summarize ep 44 real quick also (if I missed anything or got it wrong though since Chinese isn't my first language, correct me!): Shi Shan "tricks" Qingyao into meeting Yunfeng, but on the way there, she runs into Sang Nan star lord and goes back the Medicine Cave to reminiscence about the past with him. Shi Shan overhears Yun Feng's passionate proposal and tells him Qingyao met up with an "old friend." Yun Feng sees Sang Nan star lord coming out of Qing Yao's medicine office and is peeved when Sang Nan calls her "Yao'er." Sang Nan sees Yun Feng and Si Ming and is lowkey passive-aggressive towards Yun Feng (lol). Si Ming tells Shi Shan that he came to Fu Yin Palace to see her but really he was trying to hide from Yun Feng. Yun Feng finally realizes that it was Si Ming who gave Sang Nan his memories back thus allowing him to ascend as a high god and goes to Fu Yin Palace to beat up Si Ming. In the mortal realm, the Song family's "butler" sees Ling Xi and when he visits the doctor, he inquires after Ling Xi. He finds Ling Xi and Jiu Chen in the house in the forest and accuses Ling Xi of being a shame to her father and for being inappropriate since she was living with a man she didn't know. Ling Xi realizes that Jiu Chen is not Mr. Song and he tells her that his real name is Jiu Chen. Later, she asks him all sorts of questions about his origins and his family, but he evades all her questions. An Earth immortal from the local area pays his respects to Jiu Chen and Jiu Chen requests for the former to prepare an identity for him - an identity that has everything someone would look for in a marriage, like land and money. Jiu Chen and Ling Xi go back to her hometown since she was worried about her grandma's sickness. Ling Xi's mom finds out she can hear and talk now. Jiu Chen is told by the 2nd wife that Ling Xi's dad will be with him shortly.

Yes, exactly! I think that's what may be confusing viewers and making the subs (especially since they're incomplete) seem like really bad subs lol...

You should keep watching! I agree, ep 1-20 was pretty boring and typical, but it really picks up after ep 20! I don't know anything about her having 3 mortal lives - I think you might be mistaking that for the "three calamities" she must go through in her mortal life. (The first being the betrayal from her mortal father.) She also gets scenes with Jiu Chen again (after like 15 eps!) in ep 37 if I remember correctly). And if you really want the fun episodes, skip to ep 37 and 38.

It's not exactly "modern," but it's not exactly "ancient." Regarding the "hard aspects" of translating historical Chinese dramas, it has to do with the fact that they often use allusions to literature and poetry in Chinese culture and some words that are "archaic" and not used frequently in colloquial Chinese. There's also the problem with lots of mythological and TCM terms being used in these fantasy dramas that makes it hard to translate. You've probably noticed that the way they speak in historical Chinese dramas is more "lyrical" and "poetic" than in modern Chinese dramas because of this. I'd say Chinese in historical dramas is like a fluffed up, complex version of colloquial Chinese and is fairly hard to translate as compared to modern Chinese dramas if you're not fluent in Chinese and/or know a lot about Chinese culture.

I'm helping to sub the drama on YT, but it's all volunteer work (we also have no control over when Croton uploads the subs) and I know there's other people helping to sub. I've been really busy but as soon as I finish finals, I'll be able to work on it more! For some reason Croton uploads them even when they're not 100% finished, and I don't even know if they'll update the subs when they've been 100% finished...that may explain why they're incomplete? Chinese also isn't my first language (I don't know about the other subbers...) but I try subbing the best I can. But I agree, it's being subbed really slowly unfortunately :(

He was explaining how on the day when Ling Xi went to court (where Jiu Chen said all those hurtful things), she could still hear but by the time Jiu Chen went back to the prison and explained to her that everything was a front and that he had a plan to save her, she couldn't hear. That's why she was so heartbroken - she thought he had betrayed her.

Yep - he gets his memory back when she commits suicide. So realizes that he was Gu Xiaowu all along and that he was jealous of himself...

I read the novel and yes there are romantic scenes where they are happy but I don't know how close they are following the novel.

Yes I've watched up to ep 36 and they get "married" before Mu Le goes back to his kingdom.

Zhao Lan Zhi gets married to Ming Hui (he is able to save Yuan An from the poison) and Yuan An and Mu Le "get married" (the ceremony is performed with the old guy from the basement and the heavens as a "witness"). The thinking behind their marriage went sort of like this: If Zhao Lan Zhi can get married, then why can't I get married? Note: Yuan An does not know the true reason why Lan Zhi agreed to marry Ming Hui.
