I honestly don’t know if I want to watch this series! I literally skipped all of their parts on TMOPB because…
Really? Yang Mi and Mark Chao are two years apart. Dilraba is 26, and Vengo Gao is 35.
Also, actually, for TMOPB, the drama writers didn’t yet have the copyrights to “The Pillow Book,” so Fengjiu/Dijun’s story arc in TMOPB isn’t canon. The real story (from before The Pillow Book happens — which is 2,000 years prior) is very different, and the novel tells us through flashbacks. I’m hoping the drama will also begin chronologically from the start of flashbacks (like in TMOPB drama, where we first see Bai Qian becoming the 17th Disciple, ‘cause the novel starts off around Episode 26 of the drama.)
So, it’s actually not a sequel. In the novel, in Dijun’s mind, he hasn’t met Fengjiu yet, ‘cause he didn’t know that the fox he saved/took care of was actually Fengjiu. And he never noticed her when she became a maid, ‘cause she never got to see him (unlike in the drama.)
Besides, there are two volumes of The Pillow Book, so it would’ve distracted from Bai Qian and Ye Hua’s love story. It’s super long.
