I think her problem with them being gay was that one of them was her ex and the other is her new love interest (?) + her current boyfriend is gay so I get why she might feel upset. (Not really spoilers , but only my theories ahead) Probably the outfits' and hair styles and the fact itself that they were not shown. It is clear that he is somehow linked to her parents' death, so maybe she will wish for herself to live a happier life with his help. I guess that in the original storyline she got to live even a more unhappy one because she didn't have the aunt to help her and her brother. While he wishes to not live his unhappy life too (and so the world to end or his existence to chease and that's why he asks her to wish the end of the world or not make a wish, but love him so he will be doomed). Maybe it's about Karma, so they both will have to go through all of this to get a redemption.
