So it would be okay if his wife did something? Look, most of the marriages in the past were arranged so it's only…
I just think it would be nice (emphasis on "it would be nice") if he could first fulfil his duties to her as her husband, before doing anything else (getting involved with other women). Despite the fact that the marriage was arranged, as most if not all were in those days, and the fact they they don't love each other, at the end of the day they are married and have been for a while. Marriage back then was a lot more about duty than love, which is very important to keep in mind when assessing situations such as these.
Basically, everything she said when she confronted him in from of the historians. That's what I meant when I said devotion (admittedly a poor choice of words on my part); he's totally allowed to have other women, but I feel like he should give back the respect that she has given him, especially given their positions.
I pity her in that sense; she hasn't done anything "wrong" (she doesn't seem scheming, or insufferable like some of the wives in other dramas) to deserve the kind of treatment she is getting.
And whilst there doesn't need to be affection, there should be mutual respect which he is denying her of by neglecting her in this way. He ought to give her face, especially given their positions, although he doesn't necessarily have to sleep with her, or love her to do that. He could at least pretend in front of the outside world.
It's obviously not going to happen, and for valid reasons, because as others have mentioned, there's a lot more to it than meets the eye, but yes, it would be nice.
Am I the only one who doesn't ship Sae Hee and the Crown Prince? I find her a little shady, and I really think the Crown Prince should be devoting* himself to his wife, who clearly hasn't done anything wrong.
*Edit: maybe devotion was the wrong word to use...more that he should fulfil his duty as her husband before getting involved with other women (which he has the right to do anyway).
I can tell introducing the ex now + Ren's girlfriend we are going to some heartache and headaches.....I just smile…
Yes, I haven't seen a relationship as refreshing as Yo and Ren's in a long time! Haha, yeah, I don't feel bad for Ren's girlfriend at all...she knows their "relationship" is in just a trial period and that he doesn't actually have any feelings for her, and his actions have made that quite clear.
Although the OTP make up towards the tail end of the last episode, I’d argue that it’s debatable whether they…
Wow, thank you so much!! That was such a detailed and helpful response. Oh, I'm glad it's like that; I'm always a little worried about unnecessary heartbreak and love triangles, but if it's dealt with that way then I guess it isn't so bad! I've heard the MLs ex comes back (I assume so from the intro and outro), but I'm somewhat emotionally prepared for that haha, as there was a foreshadowing in the first few episodes. I've watched up to episode 14 so far and I'm hooked! I started watching the drama mainly for romance but I'm so enjoying the other themes.
So, they only truly make up at the end of the last episode? Is the romance arc still worth it, or should I skip (since I'm most looking forward to the romance part)? Also, is there any guy that likes/pursues Qiu Ying apart from the ML?
I'll appreciate Yo's ex coming back if it stirs Ren and forces him to admit to himself his feelings for her, but I hope Yo doesn't get back with him (her ex). From the previews it seems like Ren does realise his feelings for her.
We're only 6 episodes in, so I wonder what they're going to fill the next 10 episodes with, but I hope it's not unnecessary drama and heartache.
