Here's my interpretation of the ending. Tian Yi didnt really die but was badly injured that he turned childlike and lost his memory. If you noticed the new recruit doesn't act normal. He appears to be role-playing and they just let him be but this of course makes Tingyao sad.

I did feel a little disappointed with her recent reviews too. She also had a lot of bad things to say about WRTW and even created a rant episode but praised some dramas that I don't connect with so maybe we just have different preferences or she is just a little bias

One of my favorite scenes. It showed their growth and maturity. You can sense their deep love for each other but at that point there is a realization that it's hard for them to be together again so you can see their pain as well.
